Indiana rules are you can take defensive driving every two years if you want and will receive a 4 point credit on your driving record.

I remember my first ticket, they agreed to dismiss it for completion of the defensive driving course.

I've driven in Texas and love those 3 lane highways, put the fear of god in you when passing, or being passed by a Suburban doing 100+ mph. Texans drive fast is all I'm saying...lol.

A lawyer will keep your driving record clean not to mention no insurance points. It will cost less than higher insurance rates.

I've had my fair share of tickets and I've been to court without a lawyer before, it sucked. I learned quick that lawyers were worth the money.
First off we as LEO in NC have always been tough on speeding and racing. Second a judge doesnt charge you with you anything. Hes there to find out if youre guilty of that crime. OP if this is your first ever offense I would ask for a prayer for judgement however just fyi if you mess up in the future they can always go back with the charge. Be glad the trooper didnt get you for careless and reckless. Sounds like he gave you somewhat of a break. Goodluck!

I know that I was speeding and should not have been. It was a horrible mistake, now I have a mandatory court date for going 75 in a 55. Has anyone experienced this, I really have no idea what I need to do, Should I get a lawyer or what?
Ah good ole Charlotte. I hate driving through there. I had a buddy get busted for 90 in a 55 a few months ago and another one get 80 in a 55 a couple weeks later while driving through Charlotte.

Later this week you should be getting a lot of letters from lawyers. Read them and find a cheap one (I think the ones my friends hired was $350). In Charlotte you will NEED a lawyer. I know a couple of the judges for that district and they do not cut any slack for speeders who think they are capable of representing themselves. If you don't, they will give you the maximum that they can. If you have a lawyer they will reduce it to improper equipment or a non-moving violation. This way you only have to pay a small fine, court costs and the lawyer instead of a large fine, court costs, and increased insurance over the next 3 years.

Did I mention I hate driving through Charlotte?

Did you ever get around to telling him what the max penalty is for his offense? No, because you have no clue what the law and penalties are in your own state. Pathetic troll. If it happened here I would tell him his max fine is $1000 + court costs, but he will probably get a deferral option because he hasn't had a moving violation in the past 6 months.

You can't even tell him what to expect because you are like a chicken little "oh the sky is falling" And you think he will lose his car and license forever or something. Yeah he got caught speeding, so he's getting a worse penalty than a drunk driver, yeah right. Prison is not jail...Jail is where you stay while awaiting trial, not prison, once again you aren't doing a decent job of convincing anyone intelligent that you know anything about how the legal system works.

Street racing penalties are irrelevant, it's just blah blah that you think makes you look smart. The subject here in an infraction, 75 in a 55 zone.

I happen to live in Indianapolis, which is the 2nd largest city in the midwest, but our traffic court is a joke, ok. It may be more lenient since we are a large town but that's about it.

And no I don't go all to pieces when someone disagrees with me, just you. From what I've seen on this board I will never like you or believe you have anything worthwhile to offer, including this thread.
Yep. Whatever. Keep calling me a troll, it's helping your cause a lot. I mentioned the street racing fines to show what kinda horsepower the legal system has here in NC, not that you would know. I understand this is his first ticket and he may get away with it, but chances are the DA is gonna try to punish him to make him not want to do it again.

And again, you said all you needed to say when you said "I happen to live in Indianapolis". Last I checked, that's still not in NC. The op asked for help from people that lived here or knew the system here.

I'm done having you discredit everything I say and do also. It becomes tiring for me as well as everyone else on here when you comment on my posts and it becomes a huge ordeal. It's seriously getting very old. People like you make me not like this forum and that sucks cause this really is one of the better forums out there.

Yes. I corrected myself in my second posting. You are correct. And the trooper cut him a pretty good break.

Do what you think is right. If its getting a lawyer, do it. Take advice here with a grain of salt. I have read posts of claiming 12k off a new ss. Also here of others claiming , I have a 2ss vert with full auto insurane coverage for 35 dollars a month. A word to the wise as they say.
