I’m just glad by the time I buy this will all be sorted out one way or another. Hopefully they will succeed and the government will be able to sell its share and come close to breaking even. I hope they have a lot of good product coming in the next few years because what I see now and what’s coming in the next year will not make them profitable.

Buick and Cadillac sell very few cars. The Enclave is OK but it’s not a big seller the other two models don’t sell well. Cadillac has the CTS which is a good car but what else(the CTS-V is great but very niche)? The cash cow Escalade doesn’t sell anymore and the STS is crap along with the XLR. The CTS sportwagon will be niche as wagons still don’t sell really well in the U.S. The new SRX should sell reasonably well but again nothing special; so one brand with little to no sales at all and one that will sell a few. Next up GMC which are rebranded Chevy’s, again what’s the purpose here? Lastly Chevy, it’s in the best shape but still not great. Performance is good, Corvette and now Camaro, also the Malibu is finally competitive. There are the Chevy trucks which do well and the Traverse; and that’s about it. Upcoming is the Cruze and Volt although the Volt won’t make any money although it makes a nice Halo vehicle.

So what maybe 8 vehicles between 4 brands, how are they supposed to be profitable with that? If it was just Chevy with 8 competitive vehicles then I’d say it sounds good but there are four brands here to support.

It's also a violation of the constitution to have pre packaged bankruptcy, in my opinion*.

The executive is supposed to be seperated from the judiciary branch. Only the bankruptcy court has legal authority for corporate bankruptcy.

This is uncharted waters having the govt own the corporation and pulling the strings.

What 90% are you assuming to speak for? I love the UAW, its not perfect but IMO it does way more good than harm.
No, healthcare is a very fine benefit for a company to offer, I have no qualms against that. And retirement...well...I'm on the fence about that so I won't comment. However, the "90%" I was referring to (a completely arbitrary number, but you can argue the semantics all you want) of the board members here that have beat this to death have a general consensus that what the unions (not just auto workers) say is "fair" treatment for monkeys turning bolts is ridiculous.

That depends on your point of view. They also cost more than they produce, which is bad for business.

They need to compromise just like everyone else.

some of the pensions out there are ridiculous. 70% of pay adjusted for inflation for serving 1 term as a legislator... idk about that one... we pay for it and now it looks like we will be paying for this also. i think most americans are asking for reform in the way the system operates for some. we all need to make some concessions to make it work.

Depending on what he did...$17.00/hr plus benefits is a very respectable wage. Like...really respectable. Plus he's guaranteed a pension. It's just not feasible in today's economy for the auto companies to pay that much to get so little from workers.

So... how does this effect production of not just the Camaro, but all GM cars?

I bet production will either remain the same or increase. GM has named a new officer to come in for the restructuring of the company. Al Koch, who did the same for KMart. KMart closed several stores, but they're still in existence and now out of Chapter 11. Koch came in approx. 6 or 7 years ago to KMart.

Soooo, I assume that means further fat will be cutout once again from GM and probably more dealers will lose their shops, but the company hopefully will stick around. I would bet they'll downsize divisions further. Right now what they have left is Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac. Hummer, Saturn and Pontiac are already on the block. I could perhaps see Buick being dropped if necessary, since it is very similar to Cadillac in product line. Pontiac was likely dropped because of the similarities with Chevy. Chevy, I'll bet, will continue because of this interest and orders, in the Camaro and the life the Corvette has maintained for them.

Hope for the best, but I guess now at least things can move forward and what will be, will be. No more waiting for the inevitable, start getting on with the forced restructuring, which will take away some of the argument for out of line union demands.
Strange and difficult times we are experiencing.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a 30-90 day shutdown ala Chrysler.
