I know its really just a Chevy Suburban but I can assure you the "Avalanche" people love this car to death.

GM should re-create another Avalanche type of vehicle that uses a body on Frame.

I was told GM has determined that there is no market for Body On Frame vehicles.

I wish I knew how and where that research was conducted. Everyone who lives within 10 miles of me has one. I know 5 guys with Avalanches.

Nobody, to my knowledge, has been saying that there is no market for BOF vehicles. And if they ever claimed such a thing, a million and a half (give or take) full size pickups kinda puts that idea to rest.

What people like myself have said is that there isn't much of a market for midsize body-on-frame SUV's because they are too much of a niche. If someone wants fuel economy, they go for an Equinox or Traverse. If they want truck-like capability, they go for a Tahoe or Suburban.

Likewise, with the Avalanche it seems like people that want a truck, buy a truck. People that want an SUV, buy a Suburban. Very few are interested in a 'half and half' (aka, an Avalanche).

The fact that this exists...

...makes the Avalanche pretty much pointless in the lineup.

When it was launched, it was fairly popular due to the fact that crew cab pickups weren't very prevalent yet. That's tapered off a bit now.

Many people drive Avalanches and they don't use it as a pickup truck at all.

I have a 2008 Chevy Avalanche. I bought it in November, 2008. Right now, I have owned it for 3.5 years, and it has less than 3000 miles on it.

We have never used it as a "pickup" truck. I've never removed the panels that cover the rear bed.

We ONLY bought this car because we think it's cool. It has leather seats, and air conditioning for the rear passengers.

It rides like a Cadillac. The interior is fantastic.

The reason people buy this car is because it looks expensive. If you can't afford a GMC Yukon, or Cadillac, the next best thing is this Avalanche.

When I first saw "Avalanches", they DID have tons of plastic, and I didn't like it, but the one we have doesn't have ANY plastic anywhere. They cleaned up the design.

Captain Awesome claims to have many friends who have Avalanches, and I believe it.

This car is viewed as a "fun car". This vehicle turned me BACK to being interested in GM.

It was the first brand new G.M. vehicle I ever bought. It completely represents what GM is supposed to be all about. Making cars you LOVE TO OWN.

I love mine. got it about a month ago. it was a left over 2011 so GM had some good offers on them. I have about 900 miles on it now and it's been great. I traded in my 04 siverado in on it, which was the best truck I have ever owned.

I wish they had kept it unique, and not like every other GMT truck. In 2002 there simply was nothing like it, with an aggressive hood/fender/grill design, not found on other trucks. Over time you grow to appreciate just how much abuse all that plastic can really take and it protected the doors/sides from a lot of 'incidental' ding damage.
Then it morphed into just another GMT platform. Damn accountants @ GM.
It's why i still own this one, and never considered a trade to newer years honestly.

I happen to like my Avalanche a lot... I had a Silverado before, but the Avy is much better for my family without losing all the benefits of a full size truck. Too bad it is going away, but might help the keep the value of my 2012 LTZ up for people looking down the road for a newish one.
