The ZL1 is an awesome car, the numbers prove it, but to say that Ford takes forever to respond is rediculous.

I wasn't being literal with the comment about the GT500. And I never said Ford takes forever to respond. Ford responds probably five times faster than GM does. I meant that whenever the Camaro inches ahead, Mustang fanboys start depending on the next model year too much.

What do you mean depending on next model year too much?? Its a good thing to expect the possibility that a car company might be able to respond so fast imo.

I give Ford credit. They're giving GM a heck of a fight with the GT500. It just gets on my nerves when whenever the Camaro steps ahead, the Mustang guys ignore it and say wait til the 5.0 or GT500. However, I'll give Ford the credit it deserves, it did a nice job with defeating the 2013 ZL1 HP wise.

Id have to say its the opposite. GM is puttin up a decent fight to Ford by coming out with the ZL1. The Camaro doesnt run this segmant (performance wise). The Mustang has never left. The Mustang has had a supercharged model since 03 back when you couldnt even buy a new V6 Camaro much less and supercharged one to answer Fords Cobra. No one should ever forget this is Fords show and Mopar/GM are trying to steal it.

Actually, other than the self righteous finger pointing toward Camaro enthusiasts, I agree with 'madlock' in post #22.

It's a Mustang forum. Naturally, they will give the ZL1 crap. We have many similar threads here talking crap about the GT500. They get the same laughs from reading our threads.
Just be happy we are fortunate enough today to compare the Mustang and Camaro. The 'Prius vs. Leaf' type threads might be the car enthusiast topics of the future.

Wait until their 650hp outdated pile of crap gets it's ass handed to it by the ZL1. Then we'll see what they have to say.
Outdated? Um, no. You do know the GT500's are fully forged? You do know the ZL1 has hypereutectic pistons? A GT500 will take 20 psi all day long in nay heat. When ZL1 owners start adding boost to beat twin screwed GT500's with 20 psi you will see how outdated the GT500 engine is when the ZL1 is puking parts on the track after one of them cast pistons gives up.

Laws of physics, a 650 HP car weighing 3900 pounds will beat a car with 580 HP that weighs 4200 pounds.

There are rumors the 2013 GT500 may make 700 crank HP bone stock taken to redline on a chassis dyno.

Scared of what?

The ZL1 will need a build bottom end to beat a bone stock bottom end GT500 with a twin screw at 20 pounds of boost.

CAST PISTONS + 20 PSI = KABOOM

I just know from experience that 550HP in the GT500 was very hard to get to the ground.
One in one thousand will see a road course. It may be more like one in ten thousand if driven to the max.

Most people buy pony cars for straightline peformance.

Even a huge percentage of vette owners.

I received one of the first 03 Cobras in the country. Mine was no. 21. I lay claim to the first private owner dyno sheet posted on the net. I took the pulley cover off when I got it home. Put 300 miles on it and had it on a dyno in a couple of days. It made 360 rwhp SAE bone stock. I knew a lot of owners on LS1.com and raced with a few of them. I posted the dyno sheet on their site and was immediately accused of swapping the pulley.

I told them I would be at the local track the next weekend. I took delivery in early June of 2002. Nobody had seen a 2003 Cobra when I showed up. Their had to be 100-150 F-Body owners waiting on me. One of my buddies with an SS set me up to run one of his buddies. He did not tell me it had a built engine making 400 at the tire adn Dr's, not that it would have made a difference. I was pretty ignorant to racing. When the light went green all I saw was the ass end of that SS going down the track. He ran like an 8 flat to my 9 flat. When I came around all the F-Body owners faces were lit up. They looked like Richard Simmons heading to to the buffet line at the Velvet Tunnel Lounge. They mobbed me. All I heard was "I knew the Terminators were turds" and "the car is over rated" and "Ford is a joke".

After a couple of visits to the track I was able to get it to 8 flat on the stock F1's. Never could break into the 7's. The track was at 2000 feet above sea leavel.

A buddy of mine runs 10.5 Outlaw with a '67 Camaro. He has set track records all over the mid-Atlantic and has been on Hors Power TV several times. I dyno at his shop. He told me to get a set of slicks. I did a swap the pulley and added a CAI, exhaust and a tune. I ended up running 7.30's and I wiped the smile off those LS1 owners faces.

I only judge a car by a good driver with good tires. A 2011 owner that posts on SVTPerformance runs 11 flat bone stock except slicks. There are a few videos of him on Youtube. So far he has not broken into the 10's. A ZL1 will barely handle a 2011/2012 GT500.

Those are the ones you need to fear because a lot of them are twin screwed with 18-20 pounds of boost.
