I have to do at least 24 to retire as an Officer. You have to hold a Commission for 10 years.

Did a lot of neat stuff on active duty with the USAF. Used my benefits afterwards, finished college, got a great job in the civilian world, and am back as a reservist with the green team (AG Officer).

As a no experience 2LT I was raised by Vietnam Veteran NCOs, and glad I was as at that time they were the last of a breed with combat experience. My PLT SGT and Squad Leaders were second to none. (and it was their joke that LTs always seem to get lost). Even to this day, some of them refer to me as LT, like its my first name.

TOP, I held commands and/or staff positions all the way to DIV level, the best job in the Army for an officer is Company Commander, your experience in that position will be a game changer.
