Exactly!

.4 is no where near5-6 car lengths with these type of times.

At most 2 car lengths.

If you consider the 12.1 and 12.3 as accurate for the car, that's ok, but there was no question the MT tester said he ran sub 12s...so it really doesn't matter. In another post, I found all the 1/4 mile runs in at leasst 5 magazines including Mustangs and Fast Fords and no 2011 GT500 broke into the 11s. Here's what I found on GT500s with the performance package by SVT:

Car & Driver 12.4
Motor Trend 12.35
Edmunds 12.4
Autoweek 12.3
Road & Track 12.4
Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords 12.02 (using their best driver and every trick in the book)

Not exactly 11 second cars.

If the ZL1 ran under 12s, lets say 11.9, and the average of 6 car magazines equals 12.3 for the current GT500, the difference is .4 seconds, and that's not just slightly faster. Anyone who wins by .4 seconds in the 1/4 mile is at least 5 or 6 car lengths ahead of the competitor if not more.

2013 GT500's will hit dealer lots in Mid to late May. I have a Boss and GT500 on order. If the GT500 doesn't get crazy expensive that will be the one I buy.

GM could have easily done this but rather they only supplied a car vs. a Boss LS with 136hp less and straightened the track to give the ZL1 to use its power. Doesn't matter, it's gonna happen soon.

I posted this elsewhere but I thought I would post it here as well. Tomorrow at noon svt chief Engineer and the Shelby marketing manager are answering questions about the Shelby.

Nice. I hope someone asks about a ring time! Since that seems to be the main argument for a lot.

An article recently discovered about track times since everyone here is concerned with them.

"We’ve already heard that the 2013 GT500 droptop will be limited to a relatively poky 155MPH. That’s probably for the best, really. It’s much safer to roll a convertible over at 155 than it would be at, say, a buck-ninety.

During the press conference, however, we heard an interesting factoid, one that got us interested enough to sucker-punch SVT’s Jamal Hameedi for a brief Q-and-A:

Hau Thai-Tang told the press that the 2013 convertible with the SVT Performance Pack, which includes driver-adjustable Bilstein shocks to help the pony posse get over their ZL1 Magnaride envy, is “three seconds faster than the outgoing coupe.”

What does that mean? Mr. Hameedi was happy to help: the 2013 Performance Package convertible is about three seconds a lap ahead of the 2011 Performance Package coupe around Sebring. “Which,” he chuckled, “should give you an idea of where we will be with the coupe.”
http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/201...d/#more-429991

The 2011 ran a 2:58.48 in the hands of SVT, and 3:04.0 in the hands of Car and Driver to compare.

Some folks are math impaired I guess, but i totaled the ETs of 6 runs posted by the magazines and divided that sum by 6 and guess what...that's the average...like it or not.

11.95 @ 120.77 in a stock 2010 GT500. It is worth repeating it was in a 2010 GT500.

Agree with your points, but there are also no published sub-12 second times for the ZL1. But here we are focusing on quarter mile times when we all know the ZL1 was not designed to shine there. I'm more concerned about the most recent information regarding the improvement over the 2012 GT500 coupe that the 2013 convertible seems to have made. Wouldn't it be a kick in the you-know-what if the 2013 GT500 beat the ZL1 coupe around a track, any track!
