Will GM and Chevy respond to Ford?
Now that Ford will put the most powerful production engine in a Mustang for MY 2013 Will the ZR1 Corvette get a bump to trump Ford's 650 hp?

Why? the ZR1 is still going to be superior per power/weight and it is in a totally different league.... If you meant ZL1, an increase in HP is probably about 2 years out at KLEAST. Remember, they canno just change the tune and up the boost, they have to upgrade the engine to handle the extra power, do reliability and durability testing, upgrade the rest of the drivetrain to reliably handle the extra power, and then get it certified to sell.

ZR1 will definitely get a boost in power, but I doubt GM will do anything on the ZL1 given that a design upgrade is coming soon. I think the next version is the version to lookout for. The people on this board who have seen it says that we will be happy with the new design. I can't wait for a smaller car - I'm kind of sick of this generation's bloated fat pig style.

It's the most power production V-8 engine. Not most powerful production engine. Anyway, they don't have to increase the power in the ZR1. It will still dust the GT500. The ZL1 on the other hand is a wait and see. My thinking is that GM already has a pretty good idea that they will still beat the GT500 with the current ZL1.

Pretty sure all Corvettes will get a bump in power with the Gen Vs.

It doesn't matter what car it is in, just wondering if GM/Chevy will want to reclaim the title. Pretty sure it would happen the Corvette not the Camaro.

I dont see why Gm needs to respond. Come on a Factory 700hp car for real ? lets see the insurance premium for that one lol
yeah it gains 50hp and 100lbs of weight just to be safer. Ford imo can have the most HP the question is still left unanswered can they put it to the ground as good. ok so they may win the drag race part. The ZL1's suspension imo is set up for a different type of driving. So it seems all Ford cares about is going in a straight line. ( nothing wrong with that as I love drag racing but there is more to a car than just going straight ) |

As the CAFE standards get tougher, GM should be looking at better weight/HP ratios instead of just absolute power. With their investments already in the handling dynamics (magnetic ride), more advanced materials for the structures (carbon fibers, sandwiched aluminum sheets...) to get their cars lighter, a smaller V8s with forced inductions would be a better answer to Ford. A while back a Lambo called "Sixth Element:Carbon" was put together as a concept for the future: smaller engine (V10 instead of a V12) on a car which is around 2200lbs. That's the progress GM should be looking at.

We need to enjoy all this HP while we can because the next generation Camaro and Mustang could be a turbo 4 bangers.
