Actually, it's a 283...the crossed-flags emblem was above the grille on the hood, iirc...

Lowdown, Becky had the right answer. If it was a plain V it would be a 283. The V with the flags is a 348. I believe this used from the '59 to '61.

Put in the clutch, move the gearshift from a gear to neutral and release clutch...put in the clutch again and move the gearshift into another gear...often practised on non-synchro'd transmissions, particularly HD Trucks.

Ed Hedrick drove Grumpy's L78 Nova probably more often than Bill did...a lot of new combos came down the pipe in '69 so Bill moved on to developing them, and had Ed help him drive the Grumpy team cars a lot. I got to know Ed several years ago, and he's made several passes in our '69 Yenko Camaro, which was cool, because back in the day Hedrick drove the Yenko Chevrolet sponsored SS/D car, which was appropriately a Daytona Yellow car just like ours. Btw, that car has *yet* to be found...

Our L78 Nova was a lot of fun to drive with the M20/3.55 combo, but with the M21/L72 our Yenko Nova is an absolute mess on the F70-14s...!

Speaking of performance, what N.Y. State franchised Chevrolet dealer built and sold brand new Chevells, Novas, Camaros with 427 engines set up for drag racing in the mid/late 60's ?

I believe you're looking for Baldwin Chevrolet...but I would venture to say Motion Performance did most of the hi-perf wrenching for them.
