You can get a smaller one with short cab and bed and not end up with a huge truck.
Agree 100%. Colorado way out of the question of towing a full size car trailer.

1500 full size with trailer pkg as a minimum for infrequent towing. Even that will feel like it is really working the truck. A 2500 would be far better matched for frequent towing.

A Colorado with that load will feel dangerous.

A 1500 F/S will feel barely OK. Get the optional lowest gear such as 4.10s if going 1500.

A 2500 will pull it, brake it, corner it.... confidently.

The max ratings on some vehicles are rediculously over rated. Especially on small and mid size trucks/SUVs. It may say 6000 lbs, I wouldn't do more than half that or the tail will be wagging the dog.

I can't think of any scenario where I would need to trailer my Camaro a long distance. Mostly I'm just trying to learn as much information as I can about towing so I'm making an informed decision when buying a truck. That's always been the one thing about trucks I've never fully understood.

I feel like this thread has definately helped me understand it better, though. So, thanks y'all

You would at least want a 1500. What is the price limit/ year. A real truck for pulling in it's smallest size, regular cab 8 foot bed Duramax. 2wd or 4wd?

I agree with the general consensus here that you will need at least a 1500. When I trailer cars around, I always use my F-250 which gets the job done right. However, I had to use my friend's Ram 1500 to tow a car once, and I was a lot less comfortable. The power, brakes, and handling were not that great. It would be fine if you didn't need to tow often. I would not advise you getting a colorado even if the load capacities and trailering capacities said you could tow your car. It would be extremely dangerous in my opinion.
And parking in a full size truck is not that big of a deal. If you can learn to back in to spots, that will help parking out significantly.
Also, even if you tow once a year, I would recommend getting a full size truck just because its safer (especially if you have little experience towing) and more reliable.

It didn't have the hemi in it. It was a bit older like my F-250. I think the Ram was a 1999 with the 5.9L V8. My Ford is a 2000.

Most guys at the race track have at least a 1/2 ton truck or a tahoe/suburban. All the guys who are towing happily have at least 3/4 ton.

Dont the newer 1500 silverados have a 6speed auto tranny now? when equiped properly and 2wd is better for towing and has higher tow ratings cause of the lesser weight.

Having towed V1 from Fl to Las Vegas to Canada with a 2010 GMC Sierra Z71, you will have no problems. You want the 3.73 gears with towing package.

Trailer, recommend a aluminum trailer to save on weight.

If your Camaro is lowered or has a GFX, your going to want to "TEST" load the trailer to make sure you can ride on with ease.

I just upgraded to the Silverado 3500 Dually for increased towing.....

And if your considering a Chevy, get your best deal from Becky D at Rodgers Chevrolet
