That map is worded wrongly for Washington State. Our law says "Keep Right Except to Pass" and "Slower Traffic Keep Right". Both signs are displayed regularly on multilane highways in our state.

Oh, and I've posted it before...but here's my contribution to this issue.

Which state did this video take place?

What was the speed of that vehicle?

If it was below the posted speed limit and there are laws against not using the far left lane as a passing lane and/or laws against folks driving lower than the posted speed limit I would have to say that the cop didn't abuse his powers and the driver got off lucky without being cited.

Years ago when my sister was driving the family van for a long trip, she was going 65mph in the left lane and the cop was behind her and got pissed off and pulled her over and yelled at her for impeding traffic. Good thing she was on her driver's permit and learning how to drive (while the rest of use were ZZZZZing).

So, here's a situation for all you driving aficionado's:

Posted speed limit = 65mph
Roadway = Divided highway, 2 lanes each direction, big grass median seperation

You're driving along with your cruise control set at 65mph. A vehicle ahead of you has just entered the roadway but is accelerating. You move to the left to pass, but once you get to their rear bumper and along side, they set the cruise at 65mph. You notice a state trooper behind you approaching, probably going about 70mph, no lights on.

Do you:

a) speed up and get in right lane
b) slow down and get in right lane
c) keep going same speed and hope the guy in the right lane chickens out
d)

B.

Slow down, get behind the guy that was in front of you, set a safe following distance and allow the trooper to pass. Then wait and see if you have the ability to pass the driver in front of you and charlie mike.

Yep, they show WA as left lane for tunring only. But, we do have a left lane law that most folks ignore.

Looks to me like they took the pic BEFORE they got the car out of the road. The article says AFTER they got the catr off the road.

edit: Answer for me is A. Because I was in that situation recently, and it's what I did.
