I'm sure that there are companies that can do it, the biggest question is where/how you go about getting it titled and tagged. Unless you have a title to a wrecked one, and vin...

that is not hard at all. See the Factory Five Racing roadters (1965 shelby cobra) in my signature? Titled in California as a 2006 SPCN (special construction vehicle)...smog exempt forever...only 500 certificates are issued every year but they are not hard to get at all..in fact, the past years, all 500 were not all used up til mid year. Other states have easier laws on this than CA. I am getting ready to build another one....silver with black stripes this time. One that will eat ZL1 and GT500 and ZR1 and Vipers.

Neat idea.

To anyone buying one of these: Good luck trying to register it and put it on the road. If you're lucky you'll be allowed to trailer it from show to show and maybe drive it around a track or on your own property.

That was actually my first thought. That's probably why Ford is only selling empty shells. If someone did complete the car, it'd be interesting to know whether they have to comply with emission and safety regs and crap like that. I remember hearing that Boyd Coddington got in trouble over that, but he was building them to sell....not sure if it is different if you build one for yourself.

Anyway, very cool idea anyway. The companies can sell bodies, crate engines, and all the other stuff. Just has to be assembled by the end user.

There's some assembly required.
It's actually pretty cool. I doubt GM will ever follow suit but it's pretty cool.

I think it's awesome... Will it hold value like an original?... No but it'll be a great way for hotrod builder to dotheir thing with a body and not destroy the originals... I say good job

I could swear I heard that. I'd imagine it's not much cheaper than buying a used shell.

I wish I could make one from scratch.

The benefit to a Dynacorn shell is it all new... No hidden rust and crap. I just sold my 67... Had I known how much rust was hiding... my lord! You'd have more into a Dynacorn shell but it would be 100% solid to build off. Much quicker too.

You actuall can build one from scratch fairly easy. 1st gen parts are readily available and pretty "cheap" if you know how to put it together.

Companies even make ready to go subframes that bolt right in and full rear ends.

Subframe, Dynacorn shell, front clip, rearend, drivetrain, interior and trim... Piece of cake BUT you still need to buy a VIN. That's why you see rusted out crap 1st gens bringing good money. All the buyer wants is the title, VIN plate and trim tag.
