I knows it makes for good job security

I knows it makes for good job security, but I wish they built roads right the first time and made to last, they could nearly never crack, heave or need repair if they wanted. Every spring the roads are trashed from the cold here, takes till fall for them to repair everything, and we start over.

Id have to sue the paving company if my driveway did that every year,
can tax payers sue the city for lousy road work

If you have a solution to the problem of cracking, water penetration, freezing and heaving, you can be a millionaire... Some surfaces last longer than others, but none of them are perfect.

Ohio actually has some of the best maintained primary roads in the country, go figure.

You don't have semi's ,garbage trucks, concrete trucks, and thousands of cars driving on your driveway every day either.

+1

The roads break down simply from the wear and tear of being constantly driven on. Then add that with extreme weather and it inevitably speeds up the process.

Ive herd that German roads are resilient. Apparently they lay their asphalt 1' thick instead of 2-3'' thick. My guess is that would be too expensive...

Around here they've been using asphalt as a base with concrete over that. It still only last so long.

Unhappy

in my area (jamestown ny) we have a lot of old brick roads that they just pave over the brick instead of removing the bricks and redoing it. they have done that on most of the main streets but there is still 1 or 2 that have exposed brick and they just fill in the missing asphalt in those spots (shakes head).

Typical midwest roads, I loved the pot holes when I lived in Michigan.
