who did what to whom and when? The douche is a douche, maybe he didn't break any laws maybe he did. The car that is parked in the front didn't block him from moving his douch SUV, if the car was parked before the others. The cars in the rear didn't block him either. It was the combination of them all. So, who got there first and who was at fault again?

Ruin...my whole point is...why put yourself into that position? I'm not saying it's right to key a car...it isn't. I'm not saying it's right to block someone in....it isn't.
But it also isn't right to park like a jackass. Why do it? I understand people are concerned about their cars. I am too. But I don't give ANYONE a reason to do something to my car. People still might ding my door, whether I'm parked in 2 spots or one. But by parking in 2 spots or in such a douchebag way only INVITES people to do stuff to the car. I'm eliminating those threats by parking correctly...and only risk the other idiots at that point. My whole point is that by parking like a douchebag, you increase your chances of bad stuff happening to your car. I think the goal here is to try to prevent that, but you aren't when you park these ways.

My example assumes the SUV parked there first with no other vehicles present to block is ability to come and go as the owner pleases. So... the car up front and the car immediately behind it at the very least are at fault. That third one on the far end behind him might be, but it appears they at least *tried* to leave some room for the SUV to move, so I'd let them slide.

As to being an asshole, you can be an asshole all you want and call as many cops as you want. It's on private property, and no one is getting towed unless the owner (or manager) tells the police to tow them. This is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. |

Also, as someone else & I stated...he can call all he wants. No one is going to tow anything unless the owner of the PRIVATE PROPERTY comes out and asks that it is towed.
And, that person is more likely to try to find the owners of the cars blocking and try to resolve the issue. Meanwhile, everyone is going to know how much of a douchebag YOU were because you parked that way to begin with, and are all probably laughing at you for putting yourself in that position. And laughing more because you thought you could get the cars towed. /egg on face yet?

Internet Tough Guy? Good to see we can all "what if?" a situation and not get personal... same to the comment below. Brains solve the problems muscles create. Quote:
So, no. No egg on face. At all. Or ever. This is a problem solving exercise for me based on my feelings regarding the situation. Presented with these new problems (i.e.: being on private property) I want to do so more research and see what the law really says. More later...

The guy in the SUV should carry a set of these if he's going to park like that.

Similar, though less egregious, parking irregularities occur in my apartment complex parking lot often. When it involves my Camaro or my S-10 pickup, I simply go door to door and ask, in my most polite Spanish, whether the blocking vehicle is theirs. Once found, the owner always just as politely apologizes, in Spanish, and moves his/her car.
On a few occasions, the parker has insisted on my accepting a cold beer as a peace offering, as well. It's all good, no arguments at all. |

Would I block someone in? In my Impala, I have parked within inches of another car that was in a full parking lot, and parked with the left tires ON the white line. I was parked to his left, and the car to my left wasn't on the line, but was close...so I needed a little room to open my door. Note that the car to my right had tons of room on his right side (about 2 feet to the white line), and the other car next to him was parked correctly. The guy came into the sub shop about 15 minutes later looking for who parked next to him. I got up, let him know it was me...and moved the car. I did mention that I had no other way to really park, and that he was way over the line, and he looked sheepish and didn't say anything.
