Why no hatchback?

I know a lot of threads have covered the "what do you wish the car had" issue, but I have yet to see anyone address this. One of the biggest complaints of the car is the tiny trunk opening. If GM had just connected the back glass to the deck lid, and made it all one unit that opened much like the 3rd and 4th gens, the would have been so much more usable space back there. Thoughts?

Oh, and I am a new member, and will be placing my order for a '12 as soon as they let me. Sold my 91 convertible to help pay the down payment, which still hurts.

Too eclipsy for my game :P and its a modernized recreation of the first gen. Maybe on the 6th gen they will reintroduce it?

Well, trunk space is not really a problem, it's just the small opening. Anyways, sacrifces must be made to drive a car this badass anyways.

I found the hatch in my '95 Camaro made the quite functional as well as fun to drive. However, I believe it also added some weight, which the 5th gen does not need more of, while sacrificing structural integrity. Plus, since the 5th gen is inspired by the original a hatchback would be out of place...not to mention that it would not sit well with the majority of Camaro buyers.

I'm glad it doesn't have a hatchback. I agree with what has already been said: you don't buy a Camaro for practicality.

It definitely is a small opening, but this week alone, I have bought a new vacuum cleaner and got it in the trunk, and then last night I bought a new weed n feed spreader and got that in the trunk as well. That was a lot more of a jigsaw puzzle piece to get in than the vacuum cleaner, but it got in there! (just).
