Think 16 YO with a fast car is bad?
Try this
http://www.mustang50magazine.com/eve...greene_jr.html I posted this in the mustang super thread, but it's not the mustang that's really the subject, it's the kid. How in the world could anyone EVER think it is a good idea to give this to someone as their first car???? For those of you that won't read the article, here is the breakdown: ![]() ![]() <<<< kid on left is who it's for. . . Engine and Drivetrain Block Stock Rotating Assembly Stock crankshaft, Manley connecting rods, Diamond pistons Heads Ported w/Manley valve-springs Camshafts Comp Cams/Evolution Performance Stage 3 Intake Ported Stock Mass Air Kenne Bell Throttle Body Kenne Bell dual 75mm Power Adder Kenne Bell 3.6LC supercharger w/3-1/2-inch pulley, 22 pounds of boost, and C&R Racing heat exchanger with dual fans Transmission Evo-matic three-speed w/3,000-rpm stall converter, TCI Outlaw shifter, and Dynotech 3-1/2-inch driveshaft Rear Evolution Performance-built Ford 9-inch w/35-spline axles, spool, and 3.70 gears Exhaust American Racing Headers 2-in long-tube headers, w/off-road X-shape crossover and Magnaflow axle-back exhaust Fuel System Kenne Bell Competition dual Boost-a-Pumps, stock fuel lines, Evolution Performance fuel rails, Ford Racing Performance Parts 80-lb/hr injectors "Even with its envy-inducing 20-inch Evo Series II carbon-fiber wheels and Nitto NT-05R treads out back, the car ran a jaw-dropping 9.813 at 142 mph." This is the kid's car for when he is old enough to drive, which he is not at this time. The article says he will be the envy of his high school, but I think it's more likely he won't make it two days in this car.

Future Darwin Award Winner.. hopefully dad's in the car with jr. there and witnesses what a mistake he's made.
Unless that kid's been racing since he was knee high to a Camaro door.. one more sad statistic. |

Doesn't matter how long he has been racing imo. Having a 12 second car in high school is one thing, but a 9 second street car? He's going to have two cute Junior girls in the back seat say, "hit it! I wanna see how fast it is!" then they're all going to be wrapped around a pole.

i agree, kids + HP often equal
. Hopefully this thread doesn't turn into a teens vs adults thread...but experience and and little bit of living do mean something.

I don't think it could even turn into that cuz this is completely stupid. Haha I know a lot of people said it was stupid for my to get a Trans Am as my first car, but that's a 300 hp low to mid 13 sec car at best not a monster street car. There's no way to argue that it's a good starter car.

My youngest daughter (who had been racing since 13 with several championships) drove a 11 second C5 corvette at age 15 (learners permit) to 19 on the street and never had so much as a ticket, but she grew up around performance cars and the respect for the dangers involved. She did put it into the wall once at the track (and she fixed it) and at 16 crashed her dragster at 173mph (won the round but crashed) when she hit fluid after the stripe but never had an issue on the street. At 25 she is one of the better known female drag racers in the Eastern US.
It is all in the kid and how they are raised....for every story like ours we see dozens of irresponsible idiots getting killed. |

I am 17 and got my car when I was 15. 1995 3.4 v6 Camaro. I know for damn sure I have done some stupid things, and if my first was a v8 I would of killed me self most likley. You must learn from your mistakes, but if you dont have that opportunity to learn, you never will as you most likley wont be here either.
Now that im experienced and responsible, im going to be put into a 10sec street car to bring to the track haha. 87 Mazda RX-7 LS with 350 small block with around 600hp.

MY SPECULATIONS: neither dad nor the kid have the car gene. You can tell the way they talk about the car, they have no idea what 80% of that stuff is or why they added it. The kid will get bored with it, as he has very little interest. Dad is more interested in the recognition the car brings, not the car itself. Dad will end up wrecking the car before the kid ever gets a chance to.

My folks aren't car people, and my first car that I drove to/from school was a Mercury Villager. It was a nice green with generic aftermarket rims due to a blowout which had damaged the stock ones.
After that, I upgraded to an Accord sedan. Only wreck I have ever been in was when I was driving the Honda in snow and spun out, smacked a curb. Definitely know that if I ever have a little zygote wanting to drive, they'd be in an inexpensive FWD import with ample spare parts and cheap insurance.
