Stephanie Supports GM Dealer buying a Saturn Vue.

Well my miracle baby turns 16 on May 18th. We started looking for cars for her from used to new and decided on a Saturn Vue AWD. It is a 2007 with 55K miles on her. We are going to get a 36K bumper to bumper warranty on the car so with taxes and all getting it for 16K. It is very clean and runs great.

I will post some pictures of Stephanie and the car after we pick it up this Thursday.

Congrats Scott, but I gotta ask..

Why drop 16K on a kids first car? Especially an '07 with 55K on the clock?

Sure you've got a bumper to bumper but I'm just thinking back on my first driving experiences not too long ago (8 years) and will say that.. well I don't think that'll be enough.

And don't stop harping on cell phones. There are times when I thank god that my parents trained me behind the wheel like they did.

Well it is what she wanted and my other daughter got my 2006 Accord V-6 and it cost about the same. Both kids are paying the cars off and money borrowed from us from their trust funds when they turn 18.

In both cases I was thinking 2500-5000 dollar car but I am the step-dad and that did not fly. Oldest one turns 18 in July so that payment will be gone then. It has made things tight for us but my wife is working a day or two extra a month to cover this. She makes in a 12 hour shift what I make working a 50 hour week.

For $16,000 I sure hope that five year old 07 Vue is freaking loaded and garaged. My grandparents bought a brand new one for $17k a few years ago. Saturn dealers were just about giving them away a few years ago after all the incentives and rebates. I think they are asking too much for a 5 year old suv from a dead automaker but if its been babied by grandma and parked in a garage its whole life then I might consider $15k

Yeah, that just seems too much for that age and mileage. For that kind of doe you can get a new vehicle that is pretty darn nice.

if you add the tax and warranty, the price is probably about right. I'm sure he knows how to figure out the KBB of a car guys.

With that said, my first car cost $17,000+TTL and I made the payments on it for 5 years. I can't say that I enjoyed doing that, but it's doable. I never wrecked it either. Yes, it got dinged up, but I never had an at-fault accident with it. There were things I could've done to prevent the ones that were ruled not at-fault, but that skill comes with experience. My sister never got into an at fault accident with her first car either. It depends on the kid and the parents.

If its sitting on a dealers lot then most likely they only paid $8k during a trade or auction of some sorts. Why dont you do exactly what the dealer is doing and go to an auction. I'm sure you can find a 07 Vue AWD or equivalent for $8k and it will be a fun experience. Most auctions have on the spot financing if you need that. Time's are too tough to be throwing money away, save the $8k for a family vacation or something else.

We own it now. I will tell you we have been looking every weekend for months. For the money this is cleanest car we found. 1 owner, garaged and was a 60 year old man that just traded it in for a Cruze. Service logs where looked at nothing has had to been fixed except for computer upgrades. Oil changes and everything done every 3K.

Not to bash anyone but not every new teenaged driver isn't terribly bad. My camaro (V6) is my first car and I'm 19. Before I got to pick up the camaro I was driving my dad's corvette, I have not been in an accident nor have I gotten a ticket.

Good job so far. Don't make us look bad, because I know a lot of people who do not deserve a license.
