When I need to go to the supermarket or the lake in summer, I usually take the bicycle. When I go shopping downtown, I park the car once and take a footwalk to all shops that I need to go. When I have to stop before a closed railroad crossing or a long term red traffic light, I even turn off the car's engine. I know that I SHOULD HAVE bought a different car than the Camaro, but I couldn't help because it is so beautiful. So at least I try to make a change with thinking about how to avoid unneccessary rides or keeping the engine running if there is no need for.

I don't have a personal benefit out of increasing gas pricing, not at all. I do work in the automotive industry (I design alloy wheels for a German brand), but this doesn't stick to the gas price. Probably a low gas price would increase our sales, because people have more money to spend on our wheels then. Anyway, when you say that the Europeans think that the U.S. citizens give a crap about what we are paying, maybe you're right. I remember my last visit in the United States a couple of years ago, where I took a rental car and headed for some nature-sanctuary anywhere around Tennessee. I stopped at a panorama parking area, turned off the car, stepped outside and enjoyed the scenery, the woods and the fresh air. Then a young hillbillie couple arrived with their 30-year old pick-up, throwing tons of smog and dirt out of its muffler. They parked right next to me, got out of the car and stared down the valley for approximately 15 minutes. During this they kept their frickin engine of their frickin old trash car running all time. Right inside that sanctuary. Nobody cared. If that would happen somewhere here, all the other visitors would lynch these two at the next tree. But don't worry, sometimes I also see people over here waiting in their car with the motor running. As long as this is still happening, the gas price is imho way too low.
I'm sure you will have to replace the starter much sooner than anyone here.

Considering the amount we buy, what we buy, and sometimes the distance we have to travel, it is unrealistic for any of us in the US to ride a bicycle to the market.

$0.80 per gallon is still too high. I don't see how you could think that $3.50 is way too low.

If that guy in Tennessee left that old truck running, maybe he left it running because he'd have trouble starting it back up again. I've been in that situation.

I have an even older truck that runs cleaaaaaaaaaaaan.

But anyway, like I said... I don't care what Euros or Canucks do, or have to spend for what we get at an even lower price - though we don't want to pay as much as we do.

Americans don't have a short memory.

THAT is a freaking joke right?

Americans have the shortest memory of ANY nation in the world.

Americans ONLY remember December 7th, 1941 when it's convenient or chic to do so.

Americans ONLY remember September 11th, 2001 when it's convenient or chic to do so.

Americans ONLY remember Veterans and Veteran's Day when it's convenient or chic to do so.

The media takes images and videos of these events off the TV saying, "It will just breed anger, it's too disturbing, or may offend certain people."

Instead of crying out, the American public goes along with it, without question, all in the name of "tolerance".

George Santayana... "Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it."

Fuel needs to be government subsidized. I like to quote Chris Rock in these situations in regards to oil in Ira and Afghanistan.

"All I know is, if I invade Kentucky Fried Chicken...wings will be cheap at my house!"

Seriously if we are going to bother invading and rebuilding these entire countries there should be something in it for us and I see nothing better for the average Joe than some cheap fuel.

I really think there are going to be riots though when gas gets up to and over $4 a gallon. The lasting memory of 2 years ago when some of us were paying up to FIVE FIFTEEN for a gallon of premium are too close in our minds.

No one wants to go through that shit again and people are going to be 10x more pissed than when it first happened.

And personal opinion here but SCREW oil companies. I cannot stand them in any way! To me they are down there with the scum of the earth. They make BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS of cash exploiting oil. This isn't some crap we don't need like Orange Juice its extremely essential to our lives. They mighty as well start charging for air and complete screwing us in the ass.

I hope the government can take them over or limit them in some way, they are making way too much money on bullshit. This is the one area in which I wouldn't mind complete and utter socialism.

It would take a whole lot of miles to justify a hybrid but a geo metro now there is an investment in the future. $2-3k under 100k miles, 40-50mpg. Sucks to drive but makes that $24 fillup go forever.

Thats why my every day driver is a Honda Civic hybrid 45MPG. I fill up the Camaro twice a month. It doesn't bother me that much. You guys need to drive economical cars to work everyday. The 8 cylinder camaro really isn't meant to be an every day car, if it is then you were not thinking when you bought it.

Sorry for having short memory, even though I can't the hell find a connection between WW2 and your gas pricing. But hey, old memories are also something to hold on to...

People, when gas prices go up so does everything else. Food prices, air and bus service, even uility cost as heating and electricity goes up. So when the oil companies want to get greedy and raise its prices, they not only screw over the daily commuters but everyone else through the Domino Effect. And since the economy is still trying to get back on its feet we have pay raises on hold, health care cost raising and COLAs on freeze. Now is not the time for gas prices to be raised.

According to the government's findings during their investigation of "Big Oil", their margin profit is about 10%. When is 10% profit screwing the American consumer?

*-On a special note, Senator Tom Harkin, of Iowa, accused President Bush of being in bed with "Big Oil". Well, Senator Harkin's wife sits on the Board of Directors for Phillips/Conoco Oil and I sure as hell didn't see him sending back his wife's profit sharing check. So he is literally in bed with "Big Oil". People in glass houses I guess.

What about jewlers? Their mark up is near 600%. Let's hit them with a "gross profits tax".

The free market is about supply and demand. If you don't like a product or service, DO NOT buy it.

When those who would like to see us in a "greener" world state gas will go up to $5.00+ a gallon, the futures buyers buy, buy, buy driving the price up.

This is the way the tree huggers force their beliefs on everyone and control everyone's behavior. It's all about power, not about saving the environment.

If it was about saving the environment, the tree huggers would all eat more meat. According to their own studies, the beloved bovine is one of the main sources of methane on the earth. In a word, cow farts are destroying the ozone.

If tree huggers truly wanted to save the environment, they would stop eating oxygen producing plants and have a steak.

It's kinda funny. U guy's get almost 80% of your gas from Canada and we have to pay more for our own fuel. Oh well that's how she goes.

You are correct in that observation, but there are others who think we get it all from the Middle East and that idiot down in Venezuela.
