That sounds bad

Use your brain.

Don't mess with cops. Just give them respect. Once they see you are "nice" and respectful towards them, they probably will just let you go.

Even if the cop is not in a good mood, if you AT LEAST be nice towards him and show genuine respect he likely will treat you the same way in return.

You sound like you provoked them by not pulling over right away then talking back to him.

Keep a video-recorder with you and start taping things if you frequently seem to be getting pulled over wrongfully.

I'd like to preface this with the fact that I respect LEO's, and any time I've ever been pulled over I follow the officers directions and treat them with respect.

That being said, back in the early 80's I had an incident that happened where I was definately being hassled because of the car type and my age. There are cops out there that do abuse their power...fortunately I've only experienced that once in my life.

I bought my first car in college back in 1983. It was a 73 Dodge Charger SE, and had a 383 when I bought it. I left college and moved to California. I drove there down I5, experiencing a breakdown north of Redding when a fuel pump went out. A California Highway Patrol officer helped push my car with his car to a repair shop. While I had my drivers door open and we were talking, he noticed a metal pipe, about 2 feet long, between the seat and the door. This was there when I bought the car, and was meant for protection. He said that I should put the pipe on the back seat in plain sight, which I did. Once he pushed me to the repair shop, I slept in my car there overnight. Because I was bored, I wandered around the Repair Shop yard...there were license plates scattered all over the ground. I was young, I was in college and I figured no one was using one of these, and it'd make a cool wall decoration...so I took one and put it in the trunk.

Fast forward to about 2 weeks later after I had arrived in Los Angeles. I was driving in downtown L.A. to a job, and it was early and there was NO traffic. The street I was driving on had 2 lanes in each direction. There were no other cars around me except for a non-descript car that started tailgating me. I was doing the speed limit, and this idiot was close enough that I couldn't see his headlights and most of his hood in my rear view mirror. I would guess he was 3-5 feet from my bumper.

The speed limit was 35, and I was doing that. I slowed down to 25, sped up to 40, slowed down again...all the while, this car was locked on my rear bumper. I finally slowed down to about 10 miles per hour, and the car finally changed lanes to the left lane and started to go by me. As he got side by side to me, I flipped him off. The passenger pulled out a badge, and pointed to pull over, which I did right away.

I had Washington State plates, and hadn't changed my license to a California one, nor re-registered the car yet. I had pulled into an empty parking lot, and got out of the car to talk to the cops, explaining that I was sorry to have flipped them off, but they had been tailgating. I gave them my drivers license and registration, and they proceeded to look in the windows of the car, seeing the pipe on the back seat.

I was super cooperative with them and even opened the trunk for them when they asked without any backtalk and being very polite at that point. They saw a license plate...and at that point, proceeded to arrest me for 2 things. First, I had a weapon (the pipe) in the car, in the back seat. Second was suspicion of car theft.

I was taken to L.A. City Jail, and spent about 4 hours there until I was bailed out.

I was never ticketed for anything, and no charges were ever filed. I did file a complaint, and during the investigation by IA, I was apparently being tailgated because "my gas cap was off" (which it wasn't), and they wanted to "warn" me about it (something they never told me when I was pulled over.

During the ride to the jail, the cops (which were undercover) were driving along a street with hookers, and were catcalling when they passed.

It ended up that the two officers were suspended for a short period of time because of this and my complaint to the department about it.

@Silverhawk-
No I hear what you are saying and understand where you are coming from. In retrospect I took your statement a bit literally, when you said you had pulled for less than that. I took it that you had your sidearm out and at the ready (on target) when in actuallity you had it drawn but at your side. I also added when dealing with multiple individuals I can certainly understand. Plus my statement for "out of control" was in regard to the situation had escalated to a point where deadly force would potentially be needed, not you, yourself were out of control. Make sense?

Additionally my military LEO experience was a qualifier that I was not just a civie giving your crap, I, at one time did have experience dealing with a portion of what you do.

So in closing I guess you could say have been there to a degree, got where you are coming from now, hear what you are saying and my response is stay safe and indeed go home to the family.

Cheers

There's two sides to every story

Who knows what really happened. I use to do stupid $hit when I was 17 and then change my story up so my parents would be less harsh on me. I'm betting only half of this is true. If he came on here and said how it really happened, then I'm pretty sure everyone on here would be bashing this kid and his friends for the stupid $hit they really did. Come on guys we were all his age one time, you know how it goes.

Don't be so quick to judge. Like I said to another member, i understand why you would think that, and i would probably think the same but if i was going to lie about this I don't see why I would lie about this and post this for no reason. If i were to le about it I wouldn't have bothered posting from the start.

I was in miami ONCE..about 15 years ago.. never intend to go back. My friend and I were looking for his uncles house, we had the street name, and all, but the streets there were divided into sections, meaning 1 block of it here, go down this other road 7 blocks and there's another section. Well, we got lost. Two long haired guys from NY driving a red trans am, lost in Miami. We asked for directions, and nobody spoke english. The only english speaking person we found was the officer who pulled us over because we looked suspicious. SERIOUSLY?? so, he has us handcuffed outside of the car, while he's tearing it apart, and within a block of us, came an insane amount of gunfire, to the point we hit the dirt, but this cop never flinched, just kept tearing apart our car. I even told him that it's a violation of our rights, that we didn't give him permission, blah blah blah.. didn't matter. All he found was my pack of cigs, a lighter and a couple of coke bottles full of soda. then he uncuffed us and gave us directions. at least he did that much.. Different world down there, and different world in CA too.. I spend alot of time in both states, but seems to me, they play by different rules there..

Super....another "I hate cops" thread.

Just what we need.

Shall I merge this with the other 200 "I hate cops" threads?

Everyone here has a story. And, one thing is for sure....it's ONE SIDED.

There are good officers and there are bad officers.

And ... we have quite a LARGE number of officers on this site... let's not forget.

So, when we lay down blanket statements saying "I hate all cops" and "F the police," it's people like you that are going to get threads shut down and/or deleted in a heartbeat. Remember this.

I, nor will ANY, other Moderator stand for these types of posts. If you all wish to keep your threads open, feel free to report posts such as those so we can delete and properly infract (should it be necessary).
