the truth is, i bet that scaring tactic has worked in the passed to tell if somebody is hiding something
I was a cop like six times yesterday.

Guilty until proven innocent then? Nah. It's their job to uphold the law, not to play parent to other people's kids by being unprofessional and acting like d_ckheads in the process.

OP, file that complaint. Even if nothing comes of it, someone's got to hear about crap like this. If no one reports it, it just keeps happening.

If they gave your friend a ticket for speeding ask for the radar report or whatever its called...with out that i think the judge can drop his ticket...I could be wrong but its worth a try. I just finished up everything for a ticket i got like two months ago...I was going 90 in a 70...State trooper came out of no where...Im never speeding again.

And that's the type of mindset that can easily produce corruption in the force. What does 'power' have to do with anything? Authority? Yes. When it becomes 'power' we have a problem.

Policemen deserve our respect, but they owe us the same courtesy. After all, we write their paychecks.

Get a car cam. It records speed, gps position, and gforce on the car. With a front and rear camera version, it records video and voice 24/7 and saves onto a sd card. Next time this happens, it will be fully documented. I have one and love it. It gives a piece of mind in case of a run in with a bad apple. In a situation you might be at fault, it can be evidence against you though.

Look, I'm on the job, but I'm not going to condone illegal or unprofessional conduct by any other LEO. While I read the OP's statement over again I can pick out at least one thing that may or may not have set off red flags for the original officer to adjust his conduct a little. The fact that the OP and his friends did not stop right away ---how long did they go before they pulled over? 17-18 yrs olds--- did you start moving around alot and getting excited that a cop may be behind you-- maybe looking back at the officer thru the back window and then not stopping may have given him reason to think you were trying to hide something? Windows being rolled down---are they trying to throw something out the window to prevent discovery? He obviously thought something may have been up cause it sounds like he called for back up... to get 6 cops there. Did you give them flippy attitude cause you thought you didn't do anything wrong? unfortunately he gave you an order (you didn't hear) can be perceived as being noncompliant.. adds to bad perceptions about the incident. Those things being said its impossible to know what lines if any were crossed here without both sides of the incident being able to present their story. Without knowing the officer's articuable facts its impossible to say that there were any civil rights violations (illegal search and seizure). As far as the comments they made towards you thats a whole different issue. Was there attitude going back and forth? probably... that can be addressed, but unless the officer has a long IA record its usually just a reprimand for unprofessional conduct-- to be honest. Alot of their comments sound like they were messing with you... not that its right. So go ahead and file a complaint if you feel violated.. see where it goes. I don't want bad cops out there any more than you do. If there's a pattern of thiis kind of thing with this officer it will get dealt with. No officer likes to get their a-- reamed by IA. AND ONCE AGAIN I WILL STATE THIS DOESN'T BELONG IN THIS PART OF THE FORUM BECAUSE IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH A CAMARO?!?!

Well put by SILVERHAWK. I'll tell you guys right now that a complaint filed with internal affairs is s big deal. They maintain a record throughout any officer's career and it can make or break you. As for the dash cam, good luck, many departments can't afford them in all cop cars. It sounds like the officer requested cover units before he initiated the stop which leads me to believe your vehicle matched a be on the lookout report. Bottom line, if you feel like you were treated unfairly, file a report right away. IA will investigate right away. In the day and age where everyone has a video camera in their pockets, cops are held to a much different standard. File a complaint and get it on record. Go to traffic court and if the officer shows up, he'll have to testify. This will all be on the record. Good luck with it.

If you aren't embellishing the story and it happened just as you say, I would most definitely file a report.

i would also agree you should file a report take your friends down to a lawyers office and sue.

sue for what i have no clue. lol but i do agree it is b/s. i have had cops hassle me, but see i will not shut up. they can threaten me all they want. if i am innocent then i have nothing to worry about. i have been in your situation once and i put my foot down. just cause they are the law does not give them the right to hassle you the way they did nor to pull the gun out at you.

sorry but someone was saying cops have to deal with bs which yes they do but its there job. if they did not want to then they should have never got into that profession. let alone why would they go pull three kids over hand cuff them and search there car with out a reason. last i knew you have to be a suspect and also be told you were a suspect. then the joking around with them pulling out there gun and playing little games is very childish.

sorry but thats how i feel. wish you luck on whatever you do.

Talking It's because you were in a MUSTANG

If you were in a Camaro, this never would have happened.

They probably can't get any respect out of their own punk-ass teenagers at home, so they project their insecurities and frustrations out on everyone else's kids. Saw it many times in the military with older NCOs vs. younger troops.

You've watched enough Law & Order, I'm sure...File a report. You have RIGHTS.

here in Québec, a cop that would act like this (pulling out is gun for no reason, vulgar language etc) would be flipping burgers in a restaurant for a living the very next day. I think there's no place for a cop on a ''power trip''.

Man, see thats what I'm talking about You don't freakin know if it was an unjustified power trip or not. You weren't there unless you are God you don't freakin know s---. Freakin cop bashin!!!! its gotta be all the cops fault he overreacted on everything. Its like me saying all people from Quebec are a--holes--- well I've been there a few times when I lived in Albany never was treated right (until you pull out US currency) especially when they found out you were from the US and when you come to the States you all drive like s---. Now how do you like that? not very nice is it?

I can tell you from a professional stand point I have pulled my gun for less. If I thought it was some sort of failure to stop on command/ police signal and then you don't listen to all my commands on top of it damn right I'm pulling my gun especially if I'm alone and three people in the car----Its called survival against the idiots in this world.

Cant blame you one bit Silverhawk... too many wackos out there, and besides you are only reading one side of the story, I would bet the cop has a different story all together.
