Unhappy Anyone have an Endoscopy done?

Doc's think I have an ulcer. I get it done after Thanksgiving and I am terrified! I know they sedate you but are you asleep or do you still feel whats going on?!

You can be asleep yes. Though usually they just use local anesthetic.

I had one done 5 years ago and was sedated for it. Remember laying down on the table and the next thing I know I was at a restraunt eating pancakes with my wife. She said I was never asleep but I had no idea or memory of what was going on. Guess I even called my boss and he was cracking up at all the random stuff i was talking to him about.

The sedative was thru an iv but it I don't mind needles.

not really an Endoscopy, they won't be going in your end, but down your throat for a stomach ulcer.

I dunno anymore but ive seen it on TV a few times and they give you drugs to help you relax but they all gagged, while they said "just keep swallowing", as that helps you deal with it. The drugs help with that n so ya don't try n puke the scope up or get violent.

Id make 100% sure they say or mean you will be knocked out / dead asleep, and not just drugged. Cause ya know they lie, "oh your just gonna feel a small pinch", when in reality it feels like a white hot steak knife stabbing into you.

I do know someone personaly who had it done and she had it a bit easier as she knew how to "swallow" wink wink though said after that, that would not happen for a long while as it reactivated her gag refelx.

I've had several. For mine they sent a flexible hose with a camera and light on the end down through my nose. It was not very comfortable, but they used an anesthetic sprayed up my nose. I could still feel it going down though. Very weird. Not painful though. They will probably advise you not to eat in case you get a gag reflex from the tube doing down to your stomach.

fack! I have a feeling they were going to stick a needle in me. I heard that most people don't remember a thing but still scares the hell out of me. Yea, they said to fast the night before. Bastards are going to try and make me quake like a duck.

It is all a matter of perspective. No offense, but I will trade you! Right after Thanksgiving they are doing an angiogram (a hose in your artery into my brain) and pushing glue into the capillaries in my head; fortunately I'm not awake for this one. Last week's angiogram I was awake when they put dye into my head. I will take the ulcer and endoscopy.

I just had a colonoscopy last week looking to see why I've become anemic. Thankfully they found nothing so I now will be getting a endoscopy to check out the rest of me. Best of luck with yours.

Simple as can be. Now when they start cutting into you, THAT gets a little annoying!

Had one done after gall bladder surgery 7 years ago. Went into twilight sleep had a reaction and got up on the table the doctors said (I thought it was a dream). Went back a week later and they knocked me out completely. No problems.

Don't worry. Just get it done.

Conscious(sp) sedation is the way to go. Ask for it, you won't remember a thing and will wake up as fresh as a daisy. Oops, that does require a needle, but that is nothing if the person inserting it knows what they are doing.
