Sorry to hear about Cassie. Being a dog owner for all of my life, I know the feeling when one passes on. Time will heal the wound, but remember to never forget. =)

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing your animals can be devasating. They are just so sweet and their unconditional love for us is a beautiful thing. Again I am so sorry, I hope your transition goes as well as it possibly can.

So sorry for your loss. Pookey, my calico cuddle kitty, had kidney failure earlier this year and the vet said pretty much you're going to have to watch her go slowly. Luckily we found another vet that got her back on the right track after several weeks. But during that time the pain of knowing i was going to loose her was horrible. I can only imagine. Hopefully you and your wife can get another friend, not that Cassie is replacable, but another happy face might help ease the loss.

When you do heal, and look for your next best friend make sure to double check the breeder's reputation.

There is a reason why pure bred dogs cost more to insure, and that is because to keep the popular 'look' they are often inbred and lose a lot of their better genes.... thus making them a lot more prone to being in pain, falling ill and passing away prematurely.

Not meant to disrespect or anything of the sort, rather so you will not have to deal with this again before it's time.
Thanks for the info but Cassie's condition had nothing to do with what the breeder did or inbred. This condition has happens in everything from muts to other breeds.. Sad but sometimes life is to short for the ones we love.

We had found out about Cassie 4 months ago. We did IVs for a week to get her B.U.N. down and then put her on KD food for Kidney problems. If we had not done that we would have lost her a few months back. Sometimes the Kidneys will adjust to the special food and they live for years. We were hopeful that would be the case for Cassie but it wasn't meant to be.

Sorry for you and your wife. We had to put a quarter horse down last year. She was mid 20 and my wife's horse since she was a kid. I know its hard, esp. when you get attached. We have an older dog now and I always get worried when shes lying in the grass when I pull in. I have to stop and yell at her just to make sure she moves. She has everytime so far.

She was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. I trully understand your pain. Years ago I lost my buddy (chow/sheppard mix) in a brutal way. Had to put him down after he was attacked so I know how hard it is. For awhile I felt guilty for even considering getting another pet and if you feel the same way just give yourself some time and soon your heart will allow another beautiful animal in your home. Sorry for you and your wife's loss. Take care.

We did the same thing. Shots, IV's and food but she wouldn't eat. Turned out one of her teeth was rotting under the gums and her not eating was what was shutting down her kidneys. They pulled the tooth and we continued the treatment and she healed up. But they said her life might be slightly shorter now.
My sister had a cat Gemini, that was a very rare breed and found out his breed gets s kidney problem that is un-curable and she did the same thing you did and he didn't make it.
Sometimes you just never know and there is nothing you can do but enjoy the time you have.

So sorry for your loss...i lost a pet gold fish 2 years ago and it was hard cuz it was one crazy gold fish (yall should have seen it)...my sister misses it the most...i know its not a dog but it was weird, like the whole family was attached to that fish...no one seemed to care as much for the other 6 different fish that were in the tank with it but everyone was really sad when it died. :(

We lost a puppy about a year ago to Parvo. Its funny how a pet can find its place into your heart and family like they do. It going to be hard but you sound like your a great pet parent, down the road try to give another dog a home. We now have two Great Danes rescues and we are so happy.
