Any way to eliminate a CEL without a tune?
I had "off road" exhaust on one of my previous cars and all it took was a $15 MIL eliminator wired inline with the o2 sensor to remove the CEL permanently...is this possible on the SS?
I am thinking about going with a full JBA set up sometime within the next few months...but don't want to pony up for a tune quite yet because after I want to add an intake and maybe some cams before going to get it tuned. |

Off road pipes normally don't have the second O2 bung.
You need to turn the post cat O2 codes off in the tuning. I doubt you'll find anyone selling O2 simulators any more, they were made illegal. |

Oh ok, so a tune then. What does a tune usually run with those mods?

Sorry, but I had to laugh at "cams".
A tune is really the only way you're going to solve the problem. Even high flow cats will still throw catalyst efficiency codes. |

When you remove the cats, you just need to plug in a set of O2 simulators into the plugs that used to connect to the post-cat O2 sensors. These have the same resistance as the O2 sensor reporting within the normal range. Without them, the OBD computer will report a problem with your cats.
You need to retain the pre-cat O2 sensors - the engine needs the feedback from these to run correctly. All the post-cat sensors do is verify the operation of the cats.

You don't have to get a tune as soon as you install the headers. It can be done later. You won't get the full benefit of the headers until you do the tune though.
