You can build your own Corvette engine

I was reading stars and stripes over here in Afghanistan, and a article had a statement that GM might let you come build your own Corvette Engine in the factory in MI. You get to build it and a tech will watch over the whole thing. GM's suggested price tag is 5 grand which includes the build and one night stay, you have to fork out getting your self there.

Cool but 5 Grand????

You get to build your own motor when ordering a Z06 or ZR1 for $5800. You then get to dyno the motor, and it gets a special personalized engine plaque.

It doesn't necessarily mean that you get to build whatever engine you want to put in the Corvette you ordered. I think it means you get to build the factory engine that is going to go into your Corvette. They're just taking it another step farther that what BMW and other car makers are doing where you can go and watch your car get built and/or go and pick it up right from the factory.

Does that come with a "you break it you buy it clause"?

I could see telling the service manager. "Hey ... there is something wrong with my motor"... He replies "what the hell you want me to do about it... you built the damn thing" ... LOL

If you have the cash for a ZR1 $5k is a drop in the hat for an experience of a life time.

Very sweet! I would bring along an Edelbrock timing gear drive and slip that in rather than the chain : )
