And....what good is to come for the OP in getting a report fixed?

What is wrong with it?

Why would you need it fixed if it plainly states the officer is at fault and the city takes responsibility? Whatdifference will it make?

Funny how the city has a statue put in place for situations like these. I wonder why...cause every mother, sister, brother, friend, relative, aunt, uncle, cousin and best friend and internet board member says,

SUE THEM!!!

And to darthnight72, no one said to give the cop a break because he's behind the wheel all day. It was said that the chance of them getting into a wreck skyrockets DUE TO THE FACT that they are behind the wheel all day. Yes, it does play a factor in getting into a wreck if you are behind the wheel that much more than the next guy. As you drive more, your chance of getting into a wreck go up. That's what I said earlier. And yes, the officer is a person too. Of course, he's held to a higher standard. But, he IS a person...who makes mistakes like all of us.

The report is not accurate, what was the point of him having to fill it out if they're gonna hand him back and incomplete and innacurate police report. If the roles were reversed it would have never happened. Maby its because I'm military, if can do my job right dont give me a half assed police report. I agree with the OP if the roles had been reversed he'd be beyond screwed!

And Doug, I think of you as a good guy...so I'm trying to keep my unintended internet hostility to a minimum here...but when did I EVER say anything, or even mention sueing anyone?

Hey bro don't get bent out of shape about comments like the one darthknigh made. Most ppl that don't like cops have a legit reason, as I said above I think of you as a good guy, but I dislike police as well. I've got my reasons, many reasons...but I've yet to have a positive interaction with the police. Tell you what, the next time I'm in TX well try to meet up and that way my previous sentence won't be true anymore.

Just remember when and if you ever are in need of a cop he/she will be there protecting you or helping you when you need it.
My best friend and father are cops. Believe me I have respect for what they do. However many of them (most of them) have the God complex which is unfortunate and believe they can get away with the worst driving habits in the world knowing they will not get a ticket. I'm being honest here. I also have not had a positive interaction with any Miami police officer other than my best friend and father. And believe me they would admit the same thing.

so to be simple, i cannot sue them for any damages, and the will only pay my deductible. is this not the biggest case of BS? if this was the other way around, and I had t-boned a police officer after running a stop sign etc etc...my life would be ruined.

I have also recieved my police report, which is lacking my statement COMPLETELY and a few other bits, but they do admit 100% fault. have to get it amended so it has all the facts.....so much fun

You're absolutely right in that if the roles were reversed, you'd be in deep doodoo.

one person went to the hospital.

what good would come from having the report fixed?? um...it would state everything the cop did wrong, instead of leaving some of it out? It would also include what he told me after he got out of his car, which is not the same as what is stated in the report, and it would also include my statement to the police instead of leaving it out COMPLETELY.

Do I hate you no.If I got pulled over by you and had the typical jerkoff cop attitude would I hate you.Yes.As said earlier,Cops generally have a god complex.I even have to go yo court next month yo prove to a judge that I have insurance on my car even though I shown the cop proff of insurance.Go figure.Lets face it,most people dont like cops.I think you would be surprised if you asked people if they disliked cops, and were being honest about it,what they felt about cops.I dont know how you treat people in general when you put that badge and gun on,but from my expierence it generally turns that person into a instant a@@hole.

I'd wager most who dislike cops *think* they have a good reason, but that's only because they refuse to see the bigger picture.

Take my friend. He tells me one day he hates cops in Garland because they are d!cks. I ask him why. He proceeds to tell me the following story (I'll sum up):

Apparently, his buddy went over to another friend's house and saw that there were cops arriving all over. It seems the friend had done something that necessitated their being called and there was more than one cop there. (Two or three cruisers.)

Well my friend's buddy gets out of his car and starts walking to his friend's front door. The cops tell him loudly to get back in his car, that there is something going on. The guy continues toward the door, saying he knows the guy who lives there and it's "ok."

The cops REPEAT their instructions to him not once but multiple times. The guy persists in walking to the front door, getting more belligerent as he does so. At this point, the cops take action.

I don't know if they just put him on the ground and cuffed him, or tazed him. It's been awhile since I heard the story. But this is why my friend says he doesn't like garland cops. He (my friend) wasn't even THERE at the time and is going off someone else's description of the events. Not only that, but the guy's own description, as passed to me through my friend, indicates that he refused to comply with police instructions not once, but several times and then got belligerent.

How many of us have watched "COPS?" One thing you do NOT do, is ignore police instructions. And if you do, you CERTAINLY don't get belligerent with them. When they are securing a scene, they have tons more to be concerned with than your priorities and desires.

You know it's funny. It's garland cops my friend says he hates...yet it was also garland cops who gave him just a slap on the wrist and let his mom take him home when he was found with pot in his car (along with no license/proof of insurance).

Isn't it funny how people can claim to hate cops for the supposed 'bad things' they do, but they totally forget the good things they do every day?

They only pay deductible?

So you're out of pocket for a car rental for months, and you also get to make payments on a car you can't use (presuming it's not paid off yet).

I would call that "unreasonable". That policeman- regardless of all the good intentions in the world, regardless of the fact that he didn't want to hit you and it was an accident- made a mistake that denied you your car

The rules that say they are not responsible for X Y and Z...I understand. But that doesn't change the fact that expecting you to be out of pocket for a car because that man took away your ability to use yours is unreasonable. I'd be pretty steamed

When they inspect the car, they may find all sorts of issues that cause them to re-asses their decision to repair. It can happen, and I'm not sure that a lot of insurance companies give a high estimate for a first estimate. Mine sure doesn't

Your friend and his buddy are the two dickheads. Disobeying the officer, and then expecting...what? Now the cops must view him as a problem and likely a threat.

This is the same kiddie attitude that says "teacher failed me on the test". No junior, YOU failed the test, teacher just told you how many you got wrong. The world's supposed to stop because this guy knows the people inside and "it's OK"?. Says who, him? Anything from a gas leak to a barricaded subject. This idiot could have cost somebody his life, potentially. Yes, I hope the cops DID taze the guy, and then cuff him and jam him into a cruiser for a while to cool off. Better yet I hope they could get him for battery!

I hope you don't pal around with those two, they are seriously lacking in judgment

No, my friend relayed the story. He wasn't one of the two dumb@$$es involved. I just pointed out to him that if that's his reason for not liking garland cops, then he really has no reason. Needless to say, I won the debate.

Well, it's your life, but your friends are a reflection on you, and that friend's thinking is wrong...and you know that he's wrong. Sounds like he's a little mixed up and your head is a little more level but in my opinion, and it's just my opinion- you don't need friends like that

I dont know the officers situation. He just made a bad judgement call. there were no serious injuries. If there were serious injuries that would be a different story. I am sure he received or will recieve disciplinary action after an accident review hearing. I am sure he will get a citation as well.
