I hope you got my PM, since I am not able to check "sent" messages I'm not sure it went out. I replied the same night you requested info, let me know.

However that room has been my inspiration from the beginning of my room's inception. My room will not be a complete knock off because it isn't practical or economical but will have several visual cues inspired by that picture.

The panamorph lens allows you to eliminate the black bars that are present when viewing 2.35:1 or 2.40:1 ratio filmed movies on a 16x9 display. By scaling the bars out of the picture by stretching the image the bars are removed, but you are left with tall and skinny people and scenery. But when that distorted image is projected through a panamorphic lens, is corrects the distortion. But to view this enlarged image you need a screen that is in the 2.35:1 or "constant height" format. It is not shown in my videos, but my screen has masks on each end that raise when the lens is engaged to reformat the screen ratio...Hope that helps you understand
I may not be as complete audio and video guru, but I understand that perfectly! In lamens terms, it gives you a true cinematic picture instead of the typical home theater picture. Nice.

Thats what I hate about 16:9 tvs. They are 1080p but running bluray through them, they aren't true 1080p since they don't actually fill the whole screen since the resolution doesn't match the widescreen.

I hope you didn't think I was "talking down" to you. I didn't mean to come off that way if that's how you took it. I wasn't sure whether you wanted to know what the lens did and/or how it did it... so I tried to explain the entire process the best I could...

Here is a screen shot w/o the bars, the black border is the screen frame...

I've got to ask...because I've wanted one forever -- do those projector "TVs" show as much clarity and definition as a good LCD or Plasma screen? I've heard they can be foggy.

DEFINITELY a cool build.

Yes they absolutely can and do!! You have to have some control over the lighting, the darker the better. OR have a screen that filters ambient light combined with a projector with high light output (lumens) Also the higher the contrast ratio the better. This allows deeper black levels which equates to more picture detail. With today's prices 1080p is a must (although 720p is still impressive) when considering these screen sizes (mine is 92" in 16x9 and 120" in cinescope)...most people after experiencing a good projector set up usually find a way to get it into their homes, it's definitely a "gotta havit" experience!!

Oh, yes. A simple 30-something incher for the family-room news TV is allright with me. But for movies? Video games? The superbowl? hehehe Gotta have a projector.

Thanks for that. I don't know anybody who has one of these, nor did I want to buy one just to find out. (Gotta save for that SS, dont'cha know )

You can easily get a REALLY GOOD 100" setup for $2500-2700, maybe less. Considering what people are spending on 50-58" LCDs, that is an incredible dollar/inch value!!

Good to know. And building a room similar to yours wouldn't be a problem. Put tools in my hands and I can make anything.

btw -- the lighting in the cave is impressive to say the least.

Can it simulate lightning as the surround sound imitates a thunderstorm?

I'd have to put a bed in there if it can do that...

I didn't think that at all. I was just saying I don't know everything about audio and video equipment. I know enough to make a good purchase on a TV and give advice on size, quality, features, etc. Ask me something about computers (RAM speed, Processor cache, hard drive RPM, 256 bit video cards, etc) and I'm a guru. I take an interest in all things electronics, I just don't know everything which is why I asked about the lens.

Does it lower the quality at all? I doubt you would use it if it did, but even I can notice subtle changes to quality in HD tvs and I nit pick way too much about my LCD computer monitors

Can you send me that same PM? I'd love to know how you made that door. Might implement it in my next setup.
