ok this is what i think........

lower the drinking age..... raise the driving age.

this is my thinking on it.... we let kids get their DLs at age 16 let them drive for 5 years and them let them out to drink. makes people think they know what they are doing (even drunk) because they have been driving for 5 years. which is just about 1/4 of there life time. let them drink young and drive later. so they can get the whole binge drinking thing over with.

just a thought.........

I think it should be lowered because im 19 years old and it is so easy to get alcohol even with the age limit i can go to bars around here and get it the bars dont care they want the money and idk how they dont get caught. No matter what the age limit is kids will still get it i have friends that their parents buy us alcohol and party with them.
And if you can join the draft you should be able to drink a draft

Well ... you can also find drugs quite easily ... would it be a reason to authorize drug consumption?

I don't feel like the fact that the law is not respected is a good reason to change the law

You know what helps? Not buying your 16 year old a 300hp car! Every time I see somebody posting stuff like "OMG I AM 15, DADDY IS BUYING ME MY COOL FAST CAMARO WHEN I TURN 16!!1111" I have to think how irresponsible is that...

lower the drinking age to something like this:
- soft alcoholics like beer at the age of 16,
- hard alcoholics like vodka at the age of 18.
- also have stricter regulations on drunk driving: lower the limit to 0,0 per mil for the first two or three years after you got your license and have it revoked if you are being caught driving under the influence.

let them enjoy a beer but be tough when they are irresponsible with it.

also, get rid of the stupid "no drinking in public" law. you know what freedom is to me? drinking a beer whenever and wherever i want. nothing better than sitting on a bench next to the river, enjoying the sun and having a beer.

I remember talkin about a plan like that back when i was in school it just limited what kind of alcohol we were allowed to have witch is a good idea but with the ppl saying about lower the drinking age and there will be more drunk drivers could be true and prob would be but there are alot of responsible kids out there that would drive drunk i am one of them and all my friends i never drink unless i know im staying where im at and same with my friends even after 1 beer i dont feel anything but im still not gonna drive cause it wouldnt be worth it. And for the guy that said its bad to buy your 16 year old son a 300 hp car witch can go the same way there are some good kids out there that could handle a car like that my friends mom bought him an 02 trans am ws6 im not sure real number it around 320 i think when he was 16 band hasnt wrecked or got a ticket yet and hes 19 and my other friends dad bought him a shelby gt when he was 17 and it has around the same power and he babys that thing never pushes it. So its only irresponsible if you know your kid cant handle it. That just some proof that some kids can handle things but then there is a lot of dumb kids out there that cant handle some things.

My 2 cents - Kids will always be able to get alcohol at any age. I did and it wasn't that hard. Kids will drink and drive - I did it (stupid as hell as I look back now) The main thing is if the ability to drink at 18 was made as easy as 21 then it wouldn't change anything. They are drinking now and driving now. The only way to safely handle it is to have more catch-alls in place. More education into the dangers and more deterents such as with cigs. Anyone one caught with cigs under 18 in Texas faces losing their Driver's Liscense.
Here is a set of DUI/DWI laws I would put in place

1. Jail time every offense - longer penalties for each one with a 3 strikes your in clause.
2. More fines and surcharges to keep your drivers Liscense after a DUI/DWI
3. Confiscation and sale of any vehicle (even if you dont own it) being driven by an impaired driver. All money from sales going to a victims fund for people hurt or killed in DUI/DWI Accidents.
4. DUI/DWI accidents mean "no alcohol for you" Random test and visits to offenders with a one strike and "your in" rule.
5. Any means to circumvent laws equals "your in"

By the way in case you haven't figured it out "your in" means you get the orange jump suit, don't drop the soap, bubbas woman slammer time.

type of alcohol has nothing to do with it. hard liquor or beer....age should remain up there.

People....the older ones here were once your age too!!! WE wanted the age lowered as well!!! Now that we are older, we are wiser and HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE!!!!

Don't get mad. Relax and enjoy the fact that states are keeping you alive by not allowing you or your friends to drive you around drunk.

In Texas, we have a zero tolerance law. If you are under age, you've had ANY alcohol in your system, and you are driving, you automatically GO TO JAIL. How do ya like them apples??

If the drinking age is reduced, studies show that it will reduce alcohol-related crimes.

That is where good parenting comes in. Introduce your kids to alcohol earlier than their friends will. That way it is in a controlled environment. Show them how to respect alcohol for what it is and show them the consequences for misuse.

Yeah have them drink when they are young get em really drunk and make em puke so they never want to do it again haha im just messin but all my friends that are at least 21 or older say its not as fun to drink when you are allowed to do it so maybe if it is lowered kids wouldn't think it was so fun kinda like would it be fun to play sports if there was no such thing as losing you just played no because its a thrill to know you won and didn't lose same thing with drinking your getting away with something illegal

I guess some people assume that because you drink at an earlier age you'll automatically drive drunk. I admit I drank some before I was 21, but not once did I get behind the wheel of a car. As an adult looking back on ignorant adolencent bliss I can see how how people could come to that conclusion though. I guess I was just more responsible with it than some.

How many kids do you think are drinking because they like the taste? I'd wager zero to none. Only reason a kid is drinking is for the buzz. Lower the age...no freakin way. You say you're old enough for war but not booze.... I'd rather have your 18 year old ass out killing terrorist than on the streets killing civies. Do I have an attitude about it??? Damn right I do, I've lost family members to drunk drivers 18 year old KIDS cannot and should not be expected to have the maturity of a grown aged adult.
