Exhaust note in all modes sound crappy

100% stock, manual trans. Love the adjust-ability, but I keep it in touring, because it pops less. Aren't pops unburnt fuel? Maybe that is tied to my bad mileage? Just sounds bad compared to my modded C6. Don't want headers, keeping suitcase, for now. Waiting on David's AWE solution. Thinking if I change to a catless 3" x-pipe, maybe I will be happy. Corsa & Speed Engineering look ok. What do y'all recommend? Thanks!..

A catless 3" X pipe will expand that tone you don't like unless you pair it up with lower tone mufflers like Borla S type. If you're talkin about a Corsa Xtreme then that will be worse too. Corsa makes a sport one that isn't so loud. KingLT1 on here has one and likes it. I believe Stainless Works makes a lower toned setup too.

Thanks Dynamical! Like the Stainless Works kit, good price also. Don't mind loud on track, etc. But most of the time I wanna hear music. Planning to do dynomat everywhere I can, to help with road noise. I was hoping I could get away with keeping the suitcase.

The pops and crackles are a bit much. I keep expecting to get pulled over one of these days for my 'illegally modified' stock exhaust.

As I understand it, this is 100% something that was done on purpose by GM on '19-'24s, and the '16-'18s don't do this (or at least not as obnoxiously)? So it should something that can be easily changed in the tune, right?

I’m in love with the stainless works redline, makes me smile every time I take the car for a drive.

Make no mistake about it. The 16-18's (and actually 17 is when the ZL1's came into build) pop just as much as they do in the later models. Those annoyingly excessive pops and crackles do tend to go away as soon as you run ethanol however, so do with that what you will.

This is verifiably incorrect, GM made a tune change in model year 2019 to "boost" the pops and crackles, and earlier model years do it much, much less.

My 2018 can be made to pop a little bit, maybe 2-3 pops, on decel after some hearty mid-throttle acceleration, but that's it. In contrast, the 2019+ keeps popping for several seconds, crackling out at least 8-10 pops.

Here's one of the several threads covering said tune changes and how some people want to make their 2016-2018 Camaros pop and crackle just like the 2019+: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=563618

I'm a very senior kid and love that racket. If only the muscle cars I owned in the 70s did that runs through my mind. I think the manual trans equipped do it more.

You’re correct. Manual cars tend to exhibit it more because they incorporate clutch-triggered fuel cutoff in addition to standard deceleration fuel cutoff (DFCO).

When you lift off the throttle, DFCO shuts off injector pulse during overrun. In a manual, clutch engagement/disengagement adds another layer—momentarily interrupting load and fueling—which can create more abrupt transitions when fuel is reintroduced. That sharper on/off fueling behavior, combined with ignition timing and residual exhaust gases, is what tends to produce the more pronounced pops and crackles compared to the automatics.

You can re-enable DFCO (decel fuel cut off) in the tune and the pops should stop completely. DFCO is disabled by default in the factory tune.
