There are currently options out there for you that don't require the Camaro name slapped on an SUV. You've mentioned the Mach E, there is also the Chevy Blazer EV. In SS trim it makes 615hp and 650 ft lbs. Ford sold out the Mustang name and I'm hoping gm avoids the same mistake. Plus introducing another SUV to your lineup seems equivalent to eating while having to take a shit.

Making it a 4 door makes a lot of sense given that there are no remaining sedans in the GM lineup. GM can use a single platform under a single nameplate to cover a wide variety of customers - average consumers looking to go from point A to B, customers who want a 4 door sedan that has performance characteristics (Chevy SS successor), etc.

If they do green light the two door variant, it will most likely come later as it won't be a volume seller given the current state of the 2 door performance coup market.

I've always loved the 4-door GM muscle cars like the G8's and the SS's. While I was in Australia there were a TON of Holden Commodores/HSV muscle sedans and they looked great. That style of Australian muscle car sedan would be welcomed by me. I just wish they wouldn't call it a Camaro... Maybe use another familiar 4-door name like Impala or something. Just my preference. Maybe they could get creative with the "Panther" nameplate somehow with the fabled re-release of the Camaro.

And that’s fine. They can slap any other name they want on there. Lord knows there was a contingent of people who weren’t happy the Impala and Malibu names went on rather cheap, rudimentary front wheel drive sedans in the 90s when in their minds the Impala was always the ‘62 dual quad 409, 4 speed SS with posi that Brian Wilson wrote a hit record about.

Agreed. This goes back to my original post.

The source of this article called it a next generation Camaro then confusingly called it a replacement.
You don’t replace a Camaro with a Camaro. A replacement would suggest something to fill the void with something else.

The brass at GM has already made their case for going in a different direction, most notably, the narrowing 2 door niche segment.
That makes me a niche buyer and I’d rather see a 7th Gen but I’m keeping expectations more in line with what we are literally being told.

I’m nearing retirement and my financial goals don’t include whatever this is gonna be. I’ll keep my 6th Gen and I’ll continue to love it like the day I bought it brand new.

I know it’s very early in the process, but the author of that article should be careful about using terminology such as “next generation Camaro“
The follow up article even says they may not even call it a Camaro at all.

A Camaro sedan sounds about right for these people… The car could stand on its own as a Malibu or Chevelle. How many buyers does the Camaro look or badge bring to the table?

All I can do is not buy it.

I like the C8, but bummed they’re holding back exposed carbon fiber aero for grand sport. That stinks… could just be supply chain issue, however.

SRT needs to do a sporty Camaro like coupe and just stick with RWD SC 6.2. If priced around base trim grand sport, they would move a few.

There are still people who think the 5th and 6th gens aren't real camaro's because they're not fbody's.

A name is just a name. Call it a camaro, call it whatever ...we'll never see another pony car. The right competitive vehicle is against the mach e. I'd certainly like to see something smaller than the mach-e though. I'm just not delusional to think any new cars are going to fit the basically nonexistent market that i really prefer and that i've driven across 3 generations. So the option is either an overly expensive and year long retrofit...or the closest thing that is available that's new. I dont mind if they call it a camaro... It's not like any other potential offering that isn't electric would be any closer to past camaro's.

Luckily i'm not in the market yet. My 2016 still has another 10 years of life...easily. i can wait for solid state batteries to eliminate the need for huge batteries and open up design options.

Thats almost exactly how the Camaro was born. Ford had the mustang and it was basically seen as a 1 of 1. Like it or not, electric vehicles are the future. We're just in the early stages of the transition so the hurdles are still there. 30 years from now there will probably be three times as many electric vehicles as there is now on oir roads
