I can dig a return to the hatchback Camaro. Us Gen X-ers grew up with it being a hatch from 1982-2002 and the later 3rd gen’s are really edging up in the collector car world. Which means the 4th gen’s aren’t far behind before they take on collector car status.

7th gen, if bigger and more practical will likely be heavier.

Unless they are going for the big margins / low sales formula, I'd assume that keeping the Camaro cost low is an even bigger goal this time around, so I'd assume a standard 7th gen SS may not get some of the same goodies the 6th gen had, such as the larger rear brakes (as say, compared to the LT1), additional coolers, maybe changes in suspension so it's better on the road instead of the track....stuff like that.

But they can just offer a "1LE" again if people want the car more setup for the track.

I can dig that. As someone whose done double digit HPDE days in the short time I had my 1LE, I DO think adding track goodies that don’t actually make the car faster (just more reliable on track) is wasted and just makes the car more expensive as 99% of people just want a car that looks good and is quick in a straight line. I do think GM has learned this lesson. As someone that tracked all my Camaros, I would EASILY sacrifice the negligible difference the trunk opening made performance wise for an opening that would have allowed me to easier fit stuff and a larger cooler. A large cooler is a need for a track day (for us peasants who drive/drove our Camaro’s to the track).

I don't agree about the track goodies, many of us bought the car because it's a DD that can do track days. I've only done 6 days in the Camaro, and i still think it's worth it. We have a whole package engineered for track durability, the tires + front camber adjustability + extra cooling + brakes + suspension + driving modes + PDR. How much are we really talking about per car? How much do you want to remove until it's all show and no go. Everyone seems to mention the coolers as an annoyance, what is that really $1k-2k?.


When they discontinued the car, i kind of put it into weekend car status since at the time it seemed this would be the last ICE manual Camaro ever. After 50kmiles of DD, taking the kids here and there. I'm glad there's talk of a 7th gen, but if it doesn't equal the ss 1le, i'm not buying it.

If Chevy does decide to go against the Mustang again, I thought it was fairly ingenious how the new Charger has both 2 and 4 door options.

I've been wondering what the successor to the Charger will be as the standard police/highway patrol sedan will be. Stellantis is on shaky ground and all those cop cars aren't getting any younger.

I can hear the boos but I get the feeling that something extra is going on that made Chevrolet feel justified to bring back the Camaro.

Well, GM Authority and Automotive News say the plant will also make a new Buick sedan on the same platform. I've always thought for those that wanted a more usable Camaro, the Cadillac's were the answer, but are too expensive. Maybe the buick will be like de-contented CT5, at a more manageable price?

Save all the track goodies for the 1LE package and leave all that stuff off the SS. You, me and everyone else are in the minority when it comes to actually tracking the car. There’s no reason for the SS to have all the coolers when 99% of them aren’t going to see a track. Larger rear brakes are completely unnecessary as well. With how much cars cost these days, I’ll take 1-3k off over having stuff that I’m (the general public buying cars) not going to use.

The bones of the car is still going to be there to match the SS 1LE (and probably surpass it) since it’s going to be built on the alpha 2 chassis. That’s what matters the most for building a good sports car.

You bought it because for YOU it’s a non issue. Every review of the car it was an issue. Having led a few ergonomics teams and written my thesis on packaging tools, I can assure you it is an issue for many potential customers.

This new Camaro can not sacrifice any performance capability and has to be better than the outgoing model for it to be worthwhile. If they can do this with whatever else people want for practicality then so be it. Which is an odd thing to say in my opinion. Many people I have encountered or read what they said on social media that are not car people say that none of these muscle cars/sports cars are practical. They even say this with the new Gas Sixpack Charger and it has AWD and its just a massive car with a hatch with good room for putting stuff in and basically fit a body.
