Lug nuts - factory bulge style vs standard?

I'm swapping out my stock lugs for black ones for my APEX wheels. I was pretty much set on the McGard Kit 84527 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...maro/year/2022
But the Conical Seat Type is Standard and not the Bulge style Conical Seat.

McGard Spline Kit 65515BK is also standard conical seat. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...maro/year/2022

McGard 64074 is a factory bulge style but it's $35 for 4 https://www.summitracing.com/parts/m...maro/year/2022

After searching, I see most recommend McGard and Gorilla but more so McGard because of the reported rust issues on Gorilla?

Does the standard style vs the factory bulge style actually matter?

Last i remembered... OEM wheels locks do not prevent theft.

They're widely available patterns.

Wheel lock materials is usually shatter-able with a hammer.

I buy black gorilla brand lugnuts from seller on ebay - typically about $35 for complete set. I have half set of ford racing open ends for wheels where closed ends dont fit w extended studs.

Ran spline drive for while too, but now 13/16 size, w thinwall sockets, fits wheels w really skinny bore hole. Hated always having to look for "special" socket.

Having tried both styles on the factory-option polished-finish forged wheels, I did not like how deep the standard lugs went into the cones on the wheel versus how the bulge-style lugs held the wheel. However, the locking lugs I am using (factory/McGard) use the standard cone - but that has worked out ok with just one per wheel and going on last.

I posted a photo of four options for black lug nuts in the following thread. Five years down the road, I am 100% satisfied with the McGard option I went with (#64034). The "savings" from the Gorilla set (71643NBC) I had on my 2016 1LT was not worth it... they were rust stained in almost no time.

These?

Did you have to get a different size to fit the lock lug?
How to they hold up?
Ever have one come off?

I see you know what I'm talking about Lol.
I torqued my stock lugs 400 miles ago. I checked them again today. Every single lock lug got 1/8 or so turn, but the stock bulge were 100%

Ok, I was wondering where you got the longer 1.95 from. I realize now it's a different #kit than the 64074. Did the 1.64 long not work for your studs or you just like longer lug nuts?

Yes, those are just like the ones I got. I don't have locking lugs, I've had bad experiences with them in the past.

The long and short McGard bulge-seat lug nuts both fit fine, although on Amazon it says the shorter one is correct for Camaro and the longer one is not. The specs from McGard looked the same (other than the overall length), and I emailed McGard tech service before I ordered and they confirmed they would fit factory wheels. The longer lug nut seemed to make it easier to guide the socket onto the lug nut without dinging the wheel. To my eye, there was little cosmetic difference, so I opted for the potential practical benefit of the longer one!

I ordered them from Amazon, but they only came in four packs - there was no combo kit, unfortunately. And they are a little pricier now then when I got them in 2020/2021 at just 29 bucks a pack. https://a.co/d/0f3ETSru

I have a set of McGard 64074s, and they're perfect. These still look brand new having been on my car since 2021, and although I'm using non-marring sockets to remove them, tire shops don't, yet still no rusting or damage.

Naturally, they torque in a beautifully linear fashion and never get loose either, just as one would expect.

On the other hand, I'm shocked at the current prices, I essentially paid half of that in 2021

I was really close to ordering them but decided I didn't want to deal with taking them off everytime I need to put a socket on the lugs.

Thanks good info! I get your logic, makes sense man. I did go with the shorter ones though. They are a little more tucked away and I like it.

Dude if you're using these lugs then I know they must be legit nice. Your ride looks good! These McGards seem to have the most positive reviews of them all. So I ended up getting them. Expensive yes but what isn't these days
I got 5 of them. Still cheaper than stock ones at $175 before tax. I don't like the locking lugs so I left those out. Thanks for the info bro
