Throttle body bolt

I overtightened one of the throttle body bolts when installing my Mamo throttle body, and broke it. (I saw the post that said to torque at 88 - and assumed 88 ft-lbs. No, it's in-lbs. Anyway - I imagine this bolt 11588744 can only be ordered through a dealer? I'm not seeing any at O'Reilly's, Auto Zone, etc.

I knew that the bolt didn't seem to be tight like it should, then on the way home from Minnesota today I punched the gas pedal to pass some cars on the interstate, and the car wasn't pulling like it should. Another blast later confirmed that it was running pretty rough in the upper RPM's. Before it finally broke completely, the Mamo was doing its job - the car was definitely pulling harder than it did with the stock throttle body.

YIKES!!! That sucks, sorry that happened...

Typical car lug nuts are 80 ft/lbs (Camaro is 120 ft/lbs)... That poor little bolt on your TB... 88 ft/lbs!

When I installed my Mamo TB, I used the "German method", I used a 1/4 drive ratchet set to "Gudentite"... But didn't get crazy... Hard to break bolts with a 1/4" drive ratchet...

I'm not well-versed in various torque specs, but I'm sure I didn't get anywhere near 88 ft/lbs. I thought, that's way too much! And didn't go any further. But the top left bolt was weakened enough, that it finally broke at some point during my 500 mile trip to MN & back.

That sucks, hopefully you can get the broken bolt out and replace it with a replacement and go on your way without any further issue...

The broken bolt was actually sticking out enough to grab with a needle nose pliers, and it turned right out. I had already started panicking about using a bolt extractor, because even though I have a kit, I have no experience using it. I was very relieved that it was so easy. I went ahead and ordered 4 new bolts since at least 2 other bolts were probably over-torqued. Don't want them breaking somewhere down the road.

Cool, glad you got lucky and had enough to be able to grab it and get it out!

Good thing you didn't crack the intake where the bolt lug is pressed in.

Yes, no kidding. I was afraid that's what happened at first.

Just for future reference, when a bolt breaks like yours did, even if it is flush with surface, a left hand drill bit will more than likely remove it. Just start with the smallest bit in the set and then go to next size up. When bigger bit grabs the hole of the first bit, it should back the broken stub out.
