Definitely a real thing and should be taken seriously, but I think I may just stick one or two water alarms down there instead of some phone app device.

For a few dollars you can just put a battery-powered water sensor in the trunk well and it will start screaming when it gets wet. No need for fancy BT detectors, just a simple water sensor will do.

if you are not in or the near the car when it starts screaming at you then it doesn't help.

I had an issue with water in my trunk (couple inches of water). Thankfully I noticed it before it caused an issue and GM cleaned it all out and put di electrical grease on everything. GM said they fixed it. But the other day I noticed it was damp in there. Do you think this plug actually fixes the issue? Now I'm concerned.

I would put some towels in there and turn a garden hose on the trunk lid. see if it leaks. Di-electric grease is fine, but I bet they only did the connections. Water that sits in the trunk eventually corrodes circuit boards and fuse box internals. I doubt they disassembled those and coated them. And di-electric grease is only indicated where you want things to be conductive. There are anti-corrosion gels which are not conductive. |

Sorry I never got back to you, I never found out where it comes from and honestly my solution has just been don't drive it in the rain. It only happened once badly after it sat at the dealership for days in a MASSIVE thunder storm that went for days. I have since decided to just put in the drain plug because I never found the source. But other then that idk what else to do.

Up to the top for those who are now starting to experience this.

There is a TSB for this - I don't remember the # - that involves the dealer drilling a "large" hole for drainage. I never experienced this in my 2017, but decided to buy a WeatherTech trunk liner which has a pretty high lip and looks like it would handle the situation. Mine is garage kept and I'm in AZ so rain is usually not an issue.

I decided to follow the TSB and install the plug a while ago...Seemed like the easiest solution...I have a small white paint mark on the lower corner of the back window and I've always wondered why GM had it there...Never had any water issues but the vehicle is always parked in the shop...

Did you place the plugs from underneath the trunk?

Why don't you just pull all the panels off the inside of the trunk, fold the seats down, and use a water hose to pour water over the trunk and roof, and figure out where the water is coming in.
