If that is the case then I stand corrected.
I know the Z06 got a hotter engine but didn't know it was a whole new designation.

Just to be clear (since Chevy likes to be confusing), as stated the LS6 was used in the C5 Z06 and the V1 CTS-V. I think someone said it was a Gen IV engine. I’m 99% sure it was a Gen III, not Gen IV. The start of Gen IV I believe was the LS2 followed immediately by the LS7.
GM should use cooler names. Not just letters and numbers to get more people’s attention. As silly as it sounds, it actually works on the general public when you call something “hellephant” or “predator”.

Good deal.
It wasn't that long ago, a thread like this would have numerous condescending posts about how "ICE was dead and the 7 gen Camaro was going to be all electric..." ![]()

Also want to add, while we are all concerned about the compression ratio in regard to boost, since it has PI, we MIGHT not have to do drop in pistons. Keep in mind, coyotes are 12:1 and do extremely well with boost.
If we do, it’s because of the ring end gaps which I’m predicting will be too close for higher boost levels again. In order for a big push rod engine to pass cold start emissions (which are even more demanding for 2027, hence the new engine), tight ring gaps are unfortunately necessary. Hope I’m wrong. The LS6 has my attention (although still not sure I can forgo the manual). Cold start emissions + GMs power targets are why the LT6 is DOHC. You can hit bigger NA power numbers on smaller displacement DOHC engines AND PASS cold start emissions requirements. Remember the whole reason the LT4 in the C7 Z06 was supercharged instead of NA was because GM couldn’t get a large displacement push rod engine to pass cold start emissions and hit their targeted power numbers.

Yes.
Additional note: The 409ci W-series big block (she's real fine, my 409), was Chevy's orginal big block.

Correct, the original Mark I, W-Series big block started at 348ci. Eventually to 409ci.

Lesser volume. Higher velocity. More air.

Yeah this new engine looks really nice! curious to see how the starting price of Stingrays is affected, hopefully they do not raise prices too much.
Yeah you would think they would want to bring the Camaro back to use this engine in also. what else are they going to build at the grand river lansing plant besides just CT5's? just that one model would not keep that plant busy. If they do not ever bring the Camaro or something else back, may have to consider a Stingray in a few years if and when I decide to trade in my SS. just go with a 1LT coupe. |

Some nice photos from C&D
There are videos of the startup and small revs on the C8 GS as well, here’s one towards the end of this video. https://youtube.com/shorts/0CzxvdGhC...1G43E_buS27J1Q

I recently read that our transmission maker Tremec, has created a manual that bolts right into the newer C8 chassis.
Any chance Chevy will offer the 409 in a Ray with a 6spd? Hmmm?
