Start button and plug replacement

Hello All,

I am having trouble finding a part number for a replacement wire harness plug for the push button start switch. If anyone can help that would be great. Also, are all the start buttons the same (lt,SS,zl1) function wise? I know visually they have different finish colors. Little back story on my project, I am trying to make a plug and play extension wire harness for the factory start button so I can change its location without modifying the factory harness.

Thanks!!

Not a bad idea. You probably wont find the plug from GM. They will sell you the dash harness. I bet if you were to visit a scrap yard the plug for a Camaro ATS or CTS of the same year will be the same.

Thanks. I was able to find a Standard motors product 143231-05891652 plug at Parksgeek but is out of stock. I guess worse case scenario is buy two switches, sacrifice one to make a male harness plug and just solder direct to the other with an 8 pin Molex plug close to it.

Another question for the tech guys. Function wise, will ignition switches from other models like a silverado, escalade, tahoe, etc, work the same as long as the 8 pin connector is the same? I ask because using a round style switch for the relocation would fit the application better vs the shape of the Camaro switch. I assume inside the switch is just a set of contacts and nothing specific to the vehicle it is installed in.

Looking forward to your results and parts list. This could open up some interesting possibilities...

Partial update. Received two switches, some 8 conductor cable and an 8-pin plug assembly. Took one switch apart and are starting to make the male end of a plug. Still can not find the doorman plug for the back of the ignition switch. Is anyone parting out a 2016-2024 Camaro and have that section of the dash harness for sale? Al I need is the plug and about 3" of the wiring. I tried looking in the classified but came up empty handed.
