Camaro Zl1 2018 Key FOB
Hey guys,
I have a problem. I'm in Europe, and I imported a 2018 Camaro ZL1. It arrived with only one key. I'd like to add a second one, but I'm not sure exactly which model I need. I have a 5-button key with remote start. I saw some keys on Amazon that are COMPATIBLE WITH FCC ID: HYQ4EA. For a full list, please check our product description and vehicle fitment tool. Each smart proximity key replacement comes with batteries, is fully installed, and is pre-tested to ensure quality. This Smart Key replacement is compatible with Chevrolet Camaro Cruze Malibu 2016-2021 433MHz. But I'm having doubts. The AI is recommending 315MHz for the US market???? I'm a bit lost. Thank you

AFAIR the key fob was changed in 2019 along with the infotainment update.
I have 433 MHz key fobs that came with my 2018, and 13529662 looks like the correct part for your car. You will probably want to buy a blank physical key as well (judging by pictures, the fob comes without it) and have your existing one cloned to it by a local locksmith. EDIT: found it on amazon, too: https://www.amazon.com/AC-Delco-1352.../dp/B088BFXJ9G

I believe for all years they are 433 megahertz key fobs. Also the key fobs used are across multiple GM vehicles, like the Cruze and Malibu. The key is to make sure you get one with the right radio for the Camaro. At least one of the spare key fobs I bought for my car was listed as being for a Malibu and it's worked fine.
HYQ4EA is used from 2016 thru early 2021 and possibly later HYQ4ES is used from 2021 onward If the key you have is an original key to the car you can open up the key and on the inside back cover should be the FCC ID. On my key fob it's HYQ4EA, this tells you what radio frequency range the key fob operates on. You can also check the board number on your key circuit board you have to disassemble the key a little bit more to see it though and it's not as strong of a cross reference. So basically you want to make sure that the key you get has the correct FCC ID, does above reference seems to be pretty accurate and only need to really be careful if you have a 2021 car. The biggest thing to be concerned about when buying a key fob though is that your buying a brand new never paired the vehicle key fob. To the best of my knowledge once one of our key fobs is paired with a vehicle it cannot be used with another vehicle without some specialized tools and programs to basically reinitialize the key fob to a new state. Once you get a new key fob if you've got it scan tool of pretty decent quality you can use that to program the new key or you can use the procedure documented in the user's manual and various threads on this forum to pair the key fob to your car. If you're going those procedure you might want to make sure you've got a battery charger available as it will take quite a bit of time to program a key if you only have one and using the procedure outlined in the owner's manual. Hope this helps!! |
