NPP Exhaust fuse pull sound difference from track mode?
I just did the fuse pull last night on my NPP exhaust and not sure yet how much difference there is from track mode? I just drove it to work this morning. it did seem pretty loud on start up in the garage, not sure if different from track mode? i had it set to track mode exhaust in the settings. i usually start it up with the garage door down to help with the noise to neighbors lol.
I will run it this way and see how I like it , can always put the fuse back in. |

I've been running with the fuse pulled for years... I believe in Track mode there are still certain circumstances when the valves would close... Obviously, with the fuse pulled the valves never close...

Same here, pulled the fuse because even in track mode the valves would close and shut at certain times under throttle. Pulling the fuse keeps the valves open at all times.

I don't think there is a difference except with track mode it still closes the valves in the top few gears (I think 7-8 gear on the A8).

It seems like there's a lot of confusion with how the NPP valves work. There is Open, and there is Close. When you start up the car, the valves will always be open (unless you manually went into the info center and changed it to "stealth"). If your car is in Tour mode when you start up, the valves will be open but then close after a couple seconds. You can hear them close and it gets quieter. When you start up in Sport mode, they stay open. If you shut off the car when you were in Track mode, it will default back to Tour on your next startup.
With that said, while driving or cruising, the different modes close the valves in certain conditions when you're in Sport or Track (i.e. when cruising at a certain RPM and/or gear for a certain amout of time). Tour is essentially the opposite - the valves open once you get to a certain RPM (I believe it was 4000) or when you're WOT etc. But bottom line, valves open would sound the same for any drive mode. When you pull the fuse, all that means is they always stay open. It wouldn't sound "different" other than volume comparing valves open and closed. |
