Street/strip tire setup
I just bought a set of Apex VS-5RS’s 20x9.5 ET22 20x11 ET44 and I’m hoping to nail down a tire set up before it warms up. I want a tire than can handle the power I have now on the street for some spirited driving and then at the strip a few times a year just for fun. It’s not a daily. Bought brand new in ‘23 and we’re getting close to 8k miles, for reference. It has H/C/I all the bolt ons and e85 for 575hp on the carpet. I was hoping for some info on any newer compounds potentially. A lot of my searches are pulling up old convos from 3+ years ago. And for what it’s worth there are no plans for autocrossing at all. This will be my 3rd power tour coming up and this year I want to hit stips along the way. Thanks for any and all info 🙏🏻

Let’s try this instead, what’s everyone else using that has 550+whp? And how do you like it?

I was at 575rwhp on my 1LE (FBO, e85, H/C) and just stuck with the SC3's. Best "street" tire that you can take to the track. Couple caveats though: it's my weekend car and I live in SoCal (warm climate), and I only do road courses (no drag racing).
For the street they warm up quickly and hook good with anything over 65 degree days, and on the track days they are consistent and good enough to have fun (220 treadwear) but stay streetable. Other than trying a 200 treadwear tire or Supercar 3R's (100 treadwear, but they need heat to be good), you can do a drag tire but it doesn't sound like you go to the drag strip enough to justify it. |

Thanks for the info. Yeah I was debating on the cec force’s and possibly nitto but I really don’t want to roll around on a 100 wear tire on a cruise. It’s most likely that I will stick with the stock tire. Was hoping for some new rubber suggestions but not much chatter on the subject at least at this point. Thanks for chiming in much appreciated

The issue is that any really sticky tire is going to need some heat to activate and getting enough heat into them on the street can sometimes be tough.
I only have the stock 400whp on my SS1LE, but I do track it on road courses and autocrosses and have used a few different tires on both street and track. Goodyear SC3's (220tw) are a good street/track tire, but they do need a decent amount of heat to activate. They will be drivable in ambient temps above 65 degrees, but will require a burnout to heat the rears up enough to really grip. They are similar to a drag radial on the street, just with a stiff sidewall. Vitour P1 (200tw) is very similar to the Goodyear SC3 Bridgestone RE71RS (200tw), and now the RE71RZ. These come alive at a lower operating temperature than the SC3 and are probably a better choice than the SC3 for a grippy street tire, except they are not available in stock SS1LE sizes. 19" wheel is as large as they go. Michelin PS4S (300tw) is what I have settled on for my street tires. They are a 300 treadwear, so less overall grip than the 200 treadwear options, except they need almost no heat to activate. So, if I just want to get on it and rip through a few gears, they are good to go. With the SC3's, P1's or Bridgestones, they would initially just spin, then would hook up on the 2nd attempt. Vitour is coming out with a P1X this spring that is much like the Bridgestone RE71RZ and will be available in stock SS1LE sizes. That could be a pretty good option here. I would stay away from any sub-200 treadwear tire for the street. They will just be frustrating with trying to get them warmed up before they will grip. Drag radials are another option, but they have the same issue of needing a burnout to heat them up before they will grip.

Damn. You got the same wheel set up that I want. Did you get those at a discount?
If I go with those wheels, I’m going to do Mickey Thompson ET Street SS 315-30-20 and the Mickey Thompson street comp 275-35-20. Or I may go with the Nitto setup.
