Where did the name Camaro come from
Found this if anyone was courious
The Chevrolet Camaro name was conceived by GM executives in 1966, allegedly it was a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs". The car was originally code named "Panther".

Close but here's the full context:
The Chevrolet Camaro name was coined in 1966 to signify a "friend, pal, or comrade," as described in a French-English dictionary, intended to represent a "personal car" for its owner. While not a recognized French word, Chevy executives famously joked at its launch that a Camaro is "a small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs". Origins and Meaning: "Friend" or "Comrade": According to Chevrolet managers, the name was found in a 1930s French-English dictionary to mean a friend or companion, intended to imply a close bond between the driver and the car. "Small, Vicious Animal": In response to press questions about the meaning, Chevrolet executives created the popular, witty definition that it was a "small, vicious animal that eats Mustangs". Marketing Strategy: The name was selected to begin with "C," following other Chevrolet names like Corvair, Chevelle, and Corvette, and was chosen over options like "Panther". Popularity: The name has become iconic, representing a "friend" or "companion" on the road, often associated with the camaraderie of owners' clubs and pop culture, such as its role as Bumblebee in Transformers. |

I really like that meaning. It's basically me and my good cars, I have such an emotional attachment to them. I can really tell when a company put effort into a vehicle. When they do, me and the vehicle "click", and it's just like a good friendship. |

For anyone who is interested in this kind of cool Camaro history,
"The Complete Book of Chevrolet Camaro"is a great book at a good price on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Book...s%2C125&sr=8-1 and this is great one on just the Camaro 6th Generation with lots of details on its design and development: Camaro 2016: Chevrolet's Modern Performance Car: https://www.amazon.com/Camaro-2016-C...s%2C181&sr=8-1 The new one is really $$$ pricey as these are out of print/limited availability but there are some used ones available for less.

Yeah I think what we have seen the last few years for the 6th gen book is demand pricing. That link is probably just “new old stock” if that makes sense. I got it for 30 something bucks like 5 years ago and even then I struggled to find it for “msrp”.

Thanks for the reminder about the book.
Just got a "like new" copy of Camaro: Chevrolet's Modern Performance Car delivered to my door today for $29. It has to be "NOS" based on the condition. What a wealth of info, a must have for the 6 Gen owner. This quote from the book sums it up for me: "You should look at a car without any graphics on it and know exactly what it is. If you do your job right, the car is the logo, the car is the brand." - Tom Peters, head of Chevrolet Performance Design, Camaro: Chevrolet's Modern Performance Car; page 45

Glad it was helpful! - figured there could be some owners that hadn't found out about it yet. I heard about it from this forum myself and found it an incredible one of a kind book with tons of great info.
And you got a fantastic deal on it too - didn't know it was still possible to pull of getting it for $29 but I still feel I got my more than my money's worth out of it! and yes - this is great quote and especially important for us LT1 owners, as we get the "LT1" badge replacing the "Camaro" badge in front of driver door so the only spot on the outside of the car that still says "Camaro" is on the Brembo front brakes!
