Throttle sensitivity when cold
Have done some research on this, but wanted to ask when I first leave for work in the morning when it has been cold out the throttle will be sensitive when going from a stop. it will be fine after it warms up more. what causes this?
I will just have to start warming it up longer I know before leaving now, I had been warming it up for a couple minutes in the garage. was also researching the drive modes and is track a good mode to use in town driving? read it was the most linear mode for throttle mapping. I had been using sport for town and use touring on the highway for better mileage. also just read about those soler throttle controllers you can get. do those really help? just plug it into the ecm port under the dash and put the screen on the dash? never used one of those before. thanks for any information! |

Throttle is more sensitive when warming up cause the throttle blade is already open more for the higher idle to help warm the car up (horrible explanation but that's the gist).
Driving mode is user preference. I use sport for everything. Skip the pedal commanders and just get an actual tune. More expensive but much more can be changed and adjusted.

thanks for the info! yeah will have to let it warm up longer when its cold out from now on.
I am going to try using track mode and see how I like it compared to sport in town driving also. I have my steering, suspension, and exhaust set to not change so it will just be different throttle feel, shifting. my steering is set to sport, suspension to tour, and exhaust to track. |

Track mode is definitely the most linear. If I recall correctly, Sport mode is most weighted toward the low end (least linear). So if you want less throttle sensitivity, especially when cold, start in Touring mode or Track mode.
Now that I think about it, Rain/Ice mode would probably be the best when starting cold. In this mode, TCS will retards throttle input the most because it thinks the payment is slippery, and it closes the exhaust valves which will make the car warm up faster. Just remember not to leave it in Rain/Ice mode once it's warm or the engine/oil may get warmer than you want it to if you start driving aggressively with the throttle. |

Colder air is more dense than warmer air. Your throttle response will improve under those conditions as your AFR and power changes with air temp, atmospheric pressure, density and altitude. And yes driving on snow even with snow tires is very difficult with my setup, not impossible just difficult. I have to be extremely careful how much gas pedal I use with my setup. Even a slight inclined stop sign in 1" of snow can be a futile effort even with snow tires. So I have to laugh at people who talk about tires especially A/S tires. Even at stock power levels it is a chore to say the least. I've gotten stuck at said stop signs in 1" of snow with snow tires, and not gone anywhere, or worse yet, even slid backwards while holding the brake pedal.

I have noticed this phenomenon in every car I’ve owners, especially manual transmission cars. It’s normal. I tend to let my stuff warm up a bit before I drive the so I don’t experience these issues at all

somebody gave me a Throttle Commander (huge bundle buy when a guy sold his camaro), the Free factor made me question how useful they are. you gotta think about an old Carb'ed car. they had a High Idle when cold, to keep running. a Fuel injected car is the same, it has to have more RPM to keep it running while cold, then it will idle down to the base RPM. you can see those RPM values in your tune or hand held programmer for cold & hot idle RPM. I like a remote start for those reasons. wife has a honda SUV, it will LURCH into Drive if it is cold, due to the high idle. we have to back it in, so it pulls straight out on cold mornings. if you try to reverse with the high idle, it's no fun. manageable, but annoying in this world of super smooth luxury cars. |

thanks for the info! yeah I tried the track mode and it is much smoother, think I like it more after a day of use. will see how I keep liking it after more driving. used track this morning and never had any throttle lurches. i also let it warm up a little more and it is not as cold this week.
i may go to track for town driving and touring for highway from now on. and I did use snow mode a couple weeks ago and had no issues with spinning, the roads were not real bad though. i have michelin all season tires. |
