So, the big question is: GM profited off of our data, BIG time. When are they going to pay that back with penalties to those affected (ie. All of us)…?

Got off way too easy. Can't collect/sell data for 5 years, and no fine (unless they get caught doing it again within that 5 years). And they have to get express affirmative consent (as it should be) for the next 20 years.

Better than nothing I guess.

The same time when Google pays us, among others.

But likely now a bunch of lawyers will come up with a class action lawsuit that gets us $20 while the lawyers divvy up $20 million.

Technically that was paid back in stock. Just turned out taking stock was a bad choice.

At least Google gives you useful services/apps in exchange for your data. Obviously we're still getting the short end of the stick, but it's better than paying for OnStar (or opting out), and getting sold out too.

Strawman argument. I can uninstall Google apps from my iPhone and I can use alternative search engines. And my phone didn’t come with any Google software to begin with. And Google doesn’t have dedicated hardware in my phone. And I wasn’t forced to have Google when I bought my phone new (Android users would have this problem though lol). All of that is 100% different than the Onstar situation. So not really the same thing…

Well the government gave them 50b or something, they paid back around 40b from the stocks so still owe ~10b.
