When parking i shift into park turn car off ...panel says shift into park..not sure why. 2020 camaro rs. Any idea. Was told might be a batteryissue. Thx

Its the shifter. Pretty common on GM vehicles. To be specific its the micro switch that registers the shifter knob is forward and the button is released.

As an interesting tidbit, almost the same part recently broke on my daughter's Mazda6. It's a common fault there as well, but the root cause is different (Mazda originally used crap quality rubberized plastic that physically wears out after a couple of years, and the shifter starts not to detect P, first intermittently, then completely as a groove is etched into the plastic). Then the bigger problem is that the car doesn't let you shut off the audio or even the car itself.

I turned fixing it into a collab with her, teaching her how to find parts, work with interior panels and tackle these smaller component replacements on her own.

The GM Z body cars, you could buy a new shifter harness that had new micro switches. All the modern ones you have to buy the shifter. If you call the dealer they will probably have a couple in stock.
