Talking New guy from north of Atlanta. 2023 ZL1 vert. Woohoo!

Good morning all. First post and excited to be here!!!
I’m in Alpharetta Georgia (north of Atlanta) and got a 2023 ZL1 6 speed convertible 3 days ago. It only has 1700 miles. I’m coming from a 2022 C8 Corvette stingray which was a great car but I really missed the manual transmission.
I just wanted to say hi and if anyone is in the area, please let me know if there are any good car shows or Camaro clubs around here. I have only been in Georgia for six months so I’m still learning the area.
And any recommendations for trustworthy dealers or independent shops in the area for warranty or aftermarket work?
Jay

Welcome to the Camaro family! Have a look through here, you should find some info for your area, if not you can always ask in that section. Good luck!

CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to Camaro5/6. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wives', husbands, girlfriends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

to the forums, Jay. This is a very interesting choice from you I would probably do the same, not because of the transmission but the lack of raw power in the Stingray, plus it has very narrow seats, not too comfortable for me (and I'm not even big).

Did you find the DCT so unappealing, even when you shift it manually?

Wish I could recommend a dealership in your vicinity, but it isn't easy in this area... the amazing one I'd found earlier went bankrupt shortly after covid , and the one we used with other GM cars in the family is meh, not worth the drive for you. Those cars and SUVs are now gone, so the Camaro is our only GM vehicle, and I try to do maintenance on it myself, that way I know it's done with full attention, if very slowly

The DCT in the Vette was very impressive and extremely fast shifting but the paddles are just not the same as the 3rd pedal. The raw power was not there in the Vette yet it is faster 0-60 than the ZL1. It also did not sound as impressive. I absolutely love the rev match feature in the Camaro. My wife is not quite as enthused about it though but she can’t drive a manual and doesn’t want to learn so her loss. Lol! The C8’s have been losing their value quickly so I felt like it was time now to try something different. I was at least fortunate to buy my C8 at sticker in 2022 so I didn’t lose as much as some. It was a fun ride but I can always go back. If I ever go back it would probably be an ERay but it’ll be a while before I even start thinking about again.
I did go to to Rick Hendricks and Malcolm Cunningham Chevy in Alpharetta and they seemed nice and knowledgeable enough.
Vengeance racing is right down the road from me so that’s a good option to have too.
Side note, we seriously looked at moving to Knoxville, but Alpharetta won.
Keep me in mind if you’re ever close by. I’d love to see your ride in person. It sounds amazing.

Got it, this makes perfect sense. The C8 Stingray's 0-60 is only quicker because we can't put the power down with that beautiful 376 sitting up front , once my car gets going, it's like a freight train.

And, mine is an automatic that slightly dampens the hit in 2nd or 3rd gear even with the transmission tune changes. I have ridden in beefed up (900+ hp) manual ZL1s, and the manual is even more visceral, scared the living daylights out of me, as it should.

You'll have a ton of fun with the ZL1. If you can swing it, mod it in phases like I did, that way it feels like an almost new car every time, the only major downside is that if you can't do all the labor yourself (like yours truly who is a wee amateur still), it compounds quickly with each mod.

I'll hit you up next time I have business in Chattanooga oir Atlanta and the weather is nice enough, not like what's coming later this week
