check your catch can

I installed a mishimoto catch can set this summer and had very little to empty in the warmer months, but yesterday I checked and one was full. I guess the colder weather is to blame.

Thank you for the reminder

it must be the moisture in the air. The catch can on my LTG has filled twice with water with a couple drops of oil. My LT1 doesn't do this. I was freaking out. But it's plain water, not coolant or anything else.

Catch can is cold and condensing water vapor. Water is both in the air and a byproduct of combustion. There will be some blow-by in the crankcase.

Looks like I've got a little moisture in mine.

Yeah this can happen in cold weather. Short drives--when engine doesn't reach operating temp--and catch can location--if it's in a spot where it's not exposed to engine bay radiant heat--will exacerbate the issue. The catch can lines can also get clogged with congealed oil/water vapor.

This is why air/oil separators often have a coolant circuit, to keep the can warm.

I'm running with my pcv blocked off and only ccv is open. So that's probably not helping.

This pcv path bypasses all but mishimoto catch cans. So i just ran a old head bolt from a gm 2.4 into the port to block it off. Its been working fine and i noticed it doesn't smoke at idle anymore.
