This is a major defect, almost class action I would think.
The fact that GM charged as much as they did for what should be flagship vehicles and yet left them so vulnerable for breaches (not even Camaros, their SUV's and trucks as well) should make it a class action lawsuit indeed because this is not affecting just us, it's also affecting the pockets of insurance companies.

I was actually thinking this should be class action across the ENTIRE MY vehicles just yesterday after I read this. It's not okay and it is absolutely should not be ignored at this point.

I'd be glad to post back to let all know what I receive as far as the cost payout in the next few weeks. We don't get Replacement value, you get ACV (Actual cash value) from the Insurance underwriters. Which is usually less as more factors are weighed, but is interesting because ZL1s have increased slightly in value since ~2019. I paid 66k new for mine +tax with all options except the 1LE and sunroof which was pretty good deal at the time. With only 1500 miles on car since then (Trust me those miles were hard ones!) and not a dent or blemish on it, and having more security than most - will be interesting to see what Liberty Mutual/Safeco presents to me.

Fortunately, I keep every single receipt and even catalog everything in a dated binder. Both paper and electronic (Scanned). All purchases, big and small, all maintenance, all recall work, all security footage, all items in car, etc. I already provided it all to them, so now I just wait...

Love your car ZLRob. Awesome ride with wicked power. I had the A10 too, but just the Rotofab and ported TB which I did right away as it needs no tune. Was perfect street car and quite comfortable with Mag ride.

The tough side of that one is if they make it super complex to create keys from scratch then it gets into the Right to Repair laws.

Thanks brother. It's been a great vehicle definitely not free of its fair share of issues. The build was a slow and needed one in the process because of its shortcomings but it's very stable and a very reliable ride these days. I watch it like a hawk and garage it for obvious reasons. I hope you mostly get everything back that you get back into one. I totally understand if you don't though. GM let down their entire customer base with these vehicles by not keeping them secure.

So sorry for your loss. My 2021 Camaro ZL1 was almost stolen from a secured parking garage back in October of this year in downtown LA. Luckily when I got my car I had IGLA and Compustar T-13 installed and they could not get the car started. Always groups of 3 - 4.

They don't need a signal to your key fob, to make a key for the vehicle. They make the key through the OBD-II port. If they got your key fob signal, they wouldn't need to break the window.

What is weird though is that even though I have IGLA and the OBD-II port is supposed to be locked, they were still able to get the ignition fully on without a key.

I for sure agree with a class action at this point because we will almost always need to get our windows replaced even if they don't steal our cars and like OP said, this can happen anywhere as these people are learning how to take remote start cars just as fast as these scam marketers are selling their get rich quick classes.

Right I totally know that. I saw the entire process on camera, including the Window breakage which left very little noise and I saw him hacking into the port while leaned into the car. He actually set off the Alarm for a few seconds but disabled it quickly. My only chance would have been to wake up. Sunday deep sleep I guess - and all it took was 5 mins. "Luck"y ZL1 they just didn't roll it onto a flatbed, tow truck, or small truck shipper. They didn't have that, and I'm glad for you. I've been active in Import cars, and also American cars and I remember in the 90s a number of people lost their cars parked on the street for dinner or quick shopping with all kinds of lojack, starter kills, etc equipped. Including just doing same from people's garages. Just popped their cars and were gone, likely even quicker. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen to anyone's car. It's one of the worst feelings I've had.

Shame the update apparently didn't do much, or if anything made them use a new device that takes 3 minutes instead of 30 seconds. Hadn't heard much about thefts since the update so was hoping it had been effective, but maybe they just got the workaround going.

Kinda ridiculous that the car needs to be behind several layers of digital and phyisical security or you're not allowed to take it out of the garage. Lot of times I'd like to drive my car to work but I know I'm throwing the dice, so she lives in the garage stacked behind another car in the driveway save for track days or Sunday drives. Coworker unfortunately went through this with a Hellcat, car was in his possession for about a week before he took it to go get lunch and walked out to see it missing 10 minutes later. He has a GT350 now and doesn't have to worry about that stuff.

Thank you sir. Best Holidays to you all. I will say I contacted the Dealer I bought my car from, left messages for Service/Sales Manager. No one even called me back at GM...I might to go corporate. Because they knew about this security loophole for years, and years, and didn't do shit. I know why, it was easier and cheaper to not do anything and hope no one sues.

This taught me a lot actually and is quite jarring. The FAILures are really "Future Attempt In Learning". I learned that State, City, HOA, Police (Not the first responders), Boards, Dealerships, etc are for the most part of bunch of gimped bureaucrats who really don't care. The only people you can really rely on are yourself, family/friends and good neighbors. Very few will lift a finger for you if it doesn't involve their own self interests. That's a fact, at least where I live and was never this kind of place 10-15 years ago. Time to move from "Bay Area". Peace.

CA overall isn't what it was 15 years ago.
When I moved to LA in 03 it felt like I was on vacation every day.
Around 2013 everything started getting worse every single year.
Rampant illegal drug use, catch and release for criminals and overall corruption of political establishments didn't start during covid, it only became worse and has turned CA into a shithole. I'm didn't even mentioning the housing costs, which only make it worse.

There's nothing about right to repair in any of this. You can subscribe for key-security-level access at home just like the pros at ACDelcoTDS.com.

The cruel irony is GM requires live real time dial-home-to-GM connections for replacement VIN reprogramming all the major modules (ECU, BCM, etc.) for ... you guessed it ... module theft prevention & aftermarket competition. GM does not require dial-home for key fob replacement.

Such an easy bit to flip for GM. But they don't give a sh!t. "Fcuk the customer." -GM_Manta_Since_Forever

I love my ZLE and I can tell you I drove an extra 45 minutes to get out of Daytona area this past week to an area in Florida where NO ONE DIALS 911!! As the Sheriff there also states to "Empty the Magazine Before We Arrive"!!

I too use a club, as an amateur deterrent but also have multiple system failures if a key is sensed by the system or someone tries to hack the system. Thanks Goodness for the Banks iDash Pro as I have to reset the failed voltage code and fuel error every time I start the car, but this is far less frustrating as it would be to load a tune.

I also have been testing a new stand-alone GPS tracking system that can be hidden anywhere in the car with its own data pinging system every 10-seconds. Everyone knows how many times I have taken my car apart... so this setup will take a lift, 30 minutes to access it and by then the cops will have arrived as it has already sent me calls, texts and emails every minute until I awaken or respond. I'm still not sure if I would call the cops until after I tracked the car to where it was to be later recovered by the Police.

Fun Fact... 99% of all the thieves are using tablets & Android phones to program the car, using a bridge that plugs into the diagnostic port. Guess what happens to that tablet or phone when it meets pure 18-volts without a charging block regulator to drop it to 5v-2amp draw!?? It gets SMOKED INSTANTLY!! Ya see... 12v is close enough the 5v phone or tablet can shut down it's power delivery but at a raw, unregulated 18V, its TOAST!

Guess they better find the switch from goes from the car battery to the Milwaukee M18 HD12.0 RedLithium before pluggin-in! LOL!!! Testing was fun to see an Android Phone blow the lid off a metal trash can from six feet away!! Who would have thought a powertool battery could save your car from a thief? Also makes a great starting backup if the car battery gets low.
Nice, but you know they'll find a way to defeat the voltage soon enough. my interior is apart right now. I'm thinking of putting in a fuel off/on switch to my JMS fuel pump booster which would mean they'd need to tow it if they can't find the switch. This with a stand alone GPS would be nice. When are you coming back to Thailand. I just got back from India about 4 days ago. I'll be here a month then back to India I go to help my team.

To Your Topic... FU#K that place.... I was born and raised there (Diamond Bar) in the 60's and 70's. Left in '77. I wouldn't live there if you paid me. My sis still lives in Thousand Oaks. She has a nice place, but still. way better places, like Thailand, especially for driving. If you get caught going 80KPH (50mph) over, it's $50 equivalent (1,500 Baht). I was caught doing 144 in an 80, $50. For Spirited driving, this place is the bomb. the King does take care of his roads pretty well, even the rural roads. I would buy a radar detector, but they tell you where all the speed camaras are. fast slow fast. I got to get caught ten times before a detector pays off....
