TR6060 Transmission Fluid

Hey all!

I know this is a hotly discussed topic. I need to do a transmission fluid change on my 2018 ZLE with a TR6060. After some research, it looks as though some Tremec rebuilders (such as TX Drivetrain Performance) say full synthetic transmission fluids cause a slight amount of synchro slip wearing them down faster (see screenshot below). They recommend a petroleum based alternative like Valvoline Dex/Merc (which is compatible with the Dexron III standard).

Has anybody had any luck running the Valvoline Dex/Merc fluid?

I have a 21 V6 , tremec 3160. AI says redline D6 ATF and amsoil signature series ATF is a premium option that offers good heat resistance. I have changed it twice with dexron IV am looking for a better option.

I used tremec’s HP fluid, no problems at all.

Yeah, if I were going to run a synthetic I'd likely run Redline D4. I'm just skeptical about any synthetic fluid because of what TX Drivetrain Performance alleges.

I've heard good things about this stuff. I believe it is a petroleum based fluid. The only reason I'm not using it is cost and availability.

I'm running spec fluid for the transmission. No complaints to date.

I also use Tremec's HP fluid. Started using it around 6k miles after purchasing the car. Car now has 10k and a few track days. Great so far with my only complaint being not as smooth as the factory fluid when temps get below 60f or so. It's fine after a few miles though.

Amsoil signature series ATF for me in 3 of my camaros now. Much better cold weather shifting and better temps on track.

Tremec HP directly contradicts the screenshot herein, because it's manual trans fluid; however, Tremec's HP landing page says it's compatible with all their manual transmissions since 2008, but I could have missed something

I'm using Redline D4 because my local Camaro shop recommended it based on their experience. No issues but it's only been in the car for a couple thousand miles. It *slightly* helped with shifting smoothness compared to stock fluid, but it's hardly noticeable. I'm sure you've read the D4 landing page as it addresses some of your concerns, but there's no guarantees.

Not to swim against the tide but I've been running Royal Purple Synchromesh for over 45K and no issue, they're painting with a wide brush on the 'no synthetic' recommendation. Tremec even recommends Mobil1 synthetic ATF.
