How'd you do it? What chemicals and process? Thanks for any info since I need to do mine pretty badly!

A bit of cleaning
Cleaned my throttle body. While I had it apart, cleaned the very stubborn aged-looking tint from the air inlet tubing, took a while and a number of different cleaning products, but an improvement

Sonax, some micro fiber towels, and a brush. I use a little brush that's for shoes or leather or something (it's natural bristle). Put some Sonax on a micro fiber towel. Rub on steering wheel, paying extra attention to the areas you usually put your hands, and applying more Sonax to the towel as needed. Let sit for about 15 minutes. Put warm water in a small bucket Put a new micro fiber towel in water to wet, squeeze excess water, and kinda re-wash the same areas to kinda sop up the Sonax. Repeat until you feel like you've rinsed the Sonax out. Take a look at your water when your done, even after like 4000 miles it can get pretty gross! Get another micro fiber towel, or towel, and squeeze all around the steering wheel. Keep going and use a fresh towel as needed until you feel like you've got it all and you're not sopping up very much anymore. Let dry for a few hours/over night. Good idea to leave the windows cracked/open. Once dry, take your brush and brush "against the grain" on the alcantera. Do this by brushing in different directions until you find the one it stands up the most in. Enjoy your super nice and soft steering wheel again Last edited by speedyink1; 12-04-2025 at 09:52 PM. |

That's precisely why I went with the K&N intake tube but kept the stock air box. I can't stand the way the stock tube looks when it gets just a little big aged or dirty. (FWIW, I've removed the STOP sticker since this photo was taken.)

Electrified my trunk
A couple days ago anyway. Easy enough to do (couple hours), don’t have to worry about creasing the trunk lid gasket for the trickle charger, or mounting a charger under the hood. Handy having electricity there anyway, vacuuming, travel refrigerator, etc. Bonus, makes the uninformed think it’s electric

Didn’t really cut a hole in the bumper, it’s a piece of plastic facing down, unplugged, the electrical port couldn’t even be seen, and there’s no impact to structural integrity. My larger concern was the hole I cut in the battery box floor, big enough to get a heavy duty plug end through. Hole is next to the battery drain tube. Put a rubber grommet in the hole, when it warms up a bit, I’ll caulk around it just to be sure, but the grommet fits very well. The entire length of the cable from the inlet port to six inches into the battery compartment is wrapped in heat shield wrap, there is an exhaust system down there. The cable isn’t really close to the exhaust tho. A product of nothing else to do for the afternoon

Started with Dawn, went to a Dollar Tree product I think is called Totally Awesome, something like that (smells just like Bleche White you can get lots of places), ended up using Zep Heavy Duty Degreaser. Used a tire scrub brush and a hard bristle tooth brush, and a lot of scrubbing. Finished with a VRT conditioner. Took a lot longer to clean that tube than it took to take off, clean, and replace the throttle body. Now about every time I wash the car, which is pretty often since it’s a year round DD, I’ll wipe that tube down, hopefully control the crappy buildup
