But, I came to an interesting conclusion just today, maybe more a reality! I realized, I just don’t know when to STOP F’ing with my car!!!

So, I have been contemplating replacing my Weld Solana's RT's wheels literally since I mounted them on my Z. For several reasons: 1) I don’t really like the way the front shows the satin wheel ring, which visually doesn’t match the rear beadlock look at all, 2) I originally wanted the Belmont’s, not the Solana’s that I bought, but the Belmont’s were on backorder 8 to 10 weeks when I was ready to place my order, and 3) I originally wanted fully forged wheels not cast wheels (big weight difference)

Don't get me wrong, I like the Solana wheels I have, I just don't LOVE them. Again, the Solana’s were not my first choice. After talking with Timothy Perdieu at Weld (who’s a well-respected bracket racer himself, his ZL1 is pushing 1250rwhp) and getting his advice about me buying new forged wheels and replacing my Solana’s. I've decided to buy new wheels, again!

So, I've decided to go with new Vitesse forged aluminum wheels 17x10 beadlock rears and will run MT ET Street R 305/45R17, and 18x6 fronts with Mickey Thompson Sportsman I would run a 28x6/18's. This saves over 14lbs of total wheel weight, and these look almost identical to the Belmont’s I originally wanted. I’m getting them with the Black Shell option. This will be a black powder coats wheel rim, so no stain or polished aluminum wheel rim look.

These are the wheels, and what they look like on a Camaro!
Great choice! Super excited to see some photos from Mike on your build progress!!!

I know too well how that goes… my wife told me the other day: she realized it’s never going to end with this car

I was actually going to mention the same thing Josh said. I noticed the weight difference of the front tires too, but by the time I did, my Sportsmans were already mounted.

The other problem with the Sportsman is that they’re a tick taller too. The ET Street front lets the car sit down in the front a bit better too.

Update: Well, radz28 told me once: "Be cautious, it only takes one mod to turn your car into a track car vs a street car!" I think I'm there! I ordered the Accelerated Racing Solutions drag wing yesterday, it was in stock and should ship today! Also, ordered a parachute kit (like the one at Weapon-X), it seems to be the one I wanted and it was a decent price. Today, and is a BIG decision, I'm ordering an RPM roll cage (6 point not sure probably an 8 point for window net option) with swinging/removable door bars! I've already installed the BMR harness bar. So, the rear seat stuff is already out, the seat belts are already removed etc. I'm getting some advice from Tim Perdieu, my guy at Weld who races about every week and has a BAD A$$ 6th Gen ZL1 runs 8's all day long. So, the cage I get depends on the conversation he and I have. But, below is a 6 point for reference (that make an extension kit for make the 6 point an 8-point)... to be continued.

FYI a 6 or even 8 point roll bar does nothing for you in terms of NHRA track use. You can technically go 9.0 @ 150 with NO bar. Adding a 6 or 8 point bar does not help. 8 second runs require a 10 point cage…! Now if your local track is “friendly” they might let you bend the rules a little. I’ve trapped over 150 MPH a few times and the track hasn’t hassled me too bad…but they let me know they are watching me LOL

WOW trapping 150... that would be a dream bucket list! OK, I wasn't very specific, I was adding the 6 or 8 point for "my safety" more so than fitting it into an MHRA or IHRA rule. But, I'm glad you pointed this out, it was information I didn't know! Also, I doubt my car can ever see less than 9.0 especially with how I decided to have it built. So really in the even of a roll over ?

Yeah so you’re probably fine. But you added the parachute so that’s why I thought you were gunning for 8’s…

Again, for safety I guess. I know if I have a break issue, the option to pull a chute would be better than not? I'm looking at a fire suppression system as well. I want to do this as a hobby when I feel like I want to, and not for competition. So, adding the extra weight here and there isn't an issue for me. But, I want my car to be as safe as it can be with out going too extreme. Thus, why I'm doing the things I'm doing. My worse fee is that someone else shoots across the track and hits me, and I ended up pin against the wall and struggle to get out. I also want to turn off the auto locking doors when racing if that's an option on the 2023 ZL1. Thanks for your input it 's greatly appreciated !

Anytime my man! Completely understand where you’re coming from. I added the 4 point roll bar a few years back too, knowing it was useless from an NHRA perspective. But it made the wife a little more comfortable knowing I had some extra protection if something went sideways…

Keep up the great work on your build! You’ve really got me thinking about that drag wing from ARS…!
