Exclamation Concerning oil pressure.

Had somebody local do my oil change. Was ignorant and had to much trust and now I’m in this predicament. Picked up the car and drove it home no issues. I go to sleep and drive to work (35 miles each way) and come home and smell oil. I check under the hood and there’s a decent amount of oil residue all over. I look and notice the oil cap is gone. Car was driven decently hard as well. I covered the oil fill hole for the night and checked oil level in the morning and it looked to not be too low so I added a slight bit of oil. And replaced the cap at the same time. I take it for a drive and now oil pressure is sporadic and doesn’t want to rise above 50psi and WOT. Car has brand new oil pump since cam kit was installed 1000 miles ago. Any ideas? TIA. Keep negative comments to yourself lol lesson already has been learned!

50 sounds pretty good.
I don't think you would get to 50 with a "serious" problem.
Did they change the filter?
Maybe they left the old filter on and the filter bypass is not enough to get you higher pressures at higher rpm.
Sounds like not such clever minds behind your oil change.
What weight did they use and can you be sure?

They used the oil filter and oil I provided. I saw the empty bottles of OW40 that I brought in and my filter is the correct one I provided. Wish I could show a video of my dash for context

It needs an engine. I will give you $50 for it since it's trash now.

I'm just messing with you... you don't need an engine
You might have a lot of variables to look at. One of the biggest thing is you never look at your car more than just after something messed up. Noises that have always been there that you are just now noticing since you're paying more attention. Oil pressure thats been creeping down over the miles added to the engine.
I doubt it would happen that fast but with the oil cap missing it will register as a lean condition so it will be over fueling and could saturate the oil with fuel. But again i doubt that happened that fast.
Oil temperature will affect viscosity so it can affect oil pressure also.
Its hard to say what the problem is or if there really is a problem. My oil pressure is usually under 50 too if that means anything.

No offense to the OP but an oil change is SOOOO easy on these cars I just can't imagine why anyone trusts anyone else to do them... There are a few gotchas on the LT-1, mainly that it takes 10 quarts (vs the usual roughly 5 qts on other engines), plus need to make sure the right oil is used (OP provided the proper oil and filter)...

But perfect example, they did the oil change and left the oil cap off!!! Seriously??? W.T.F???

Another thing to note is the oil control valve is electric. It will limit the pressure to what it wants it to be. If you have scanner to force it off or have a code that deems it necessary to not restrict pressure then the unrestricted pressure is pretty close to 75 psi.

Good to know thank you I’ll be looking into that. Planning on just changing the oil again myself to make sure no contaminates are in there and so I myself know the fluid is at the correct level.

There is a thread i was into not long ago about how much oil the 6.2 holds. Most are 10. Some are 10.5 few are 11. Mine is 11. A few guys say put 10 in and run it for a little bit. Then come back and check it and it will need more to be at the top.

That's one of lifes greatest mysteries. My guess is some people put the oil to the middle line and some put it to the full line. Or oil cooler options maybe. Ive never really took the time to determine where all 5 of the heat exchangers go on the front of my car but since i for sure have one that goes to the rear differential then i would expect at least one of them is for oil.

Could multiple reasons:
- not having the car level when you drain/fill it
- Not draining the oil completely. It takes quite a while to stop dripping
- Not counting the oil you used to pre-fill the filter
- Difference in target fill line on the stick
- Not letting car sit long enough after turning off engine before measuring. I let it sit overnight
- Not waiting 5-10 min after pulling the stick out and wiping off before you put it back in the tube to take a reading (pulling the stick out draws oil up the tube, which will give a false reading if you don't let it first drain back down).

I've never had a vehicle with such a particular dipstick reading procedure.. but it does make a difference when reading the levels to take the time, otherwise they're are all over the place.

10 Qts gets me most the way up the hatches
