Question DIY shark fin camera questions

I am trying to make my rear dash camera, aftermarket of course, fit into the shark fin.

1) is the only thing in there the OnStar and SiriusXM antenna's? I do not use either so the loss means nothing.

2) it looks like the OEM shark fins are different between the 16-18 and the 2019+, more of a flat face on the newer ones.
Can someone confirm this?
Anyone have a part number for the 2019+? I know, color issue between the blue from those years but I could go black or have it painted.

Any thoughts on this?

I have tried the license plate placement, but that seems too low.
Put it inside, but the picture quality is horrible even though it is 2.5K.

2020+ higher trim cars for the rearview mirror camera with the LCD in the mirror. I don’t believe the physical design of the regular mirror without LCD was changed throughout the 6th gen otherwise. There was one person here that essentially modified the standard shark fin to become the rearview mirror camera which involved lots of fabrication on the antenna

I have watch many of the online videos.
Other than one, probably the one Bumbleboy92 is referring to, they all were utilizing the same idea as Gen5diy's upgrade.
The video where he drilled the shark fin would not pass my OCD/ADHD desire for perfection which is why I was asking about the newer shark fin having more of a flat surface for the camera tether then the pointed sloped surface.

I am not am not looking to use the factory camera or wiring, but use my dash cam rear camera.

In the marked up photo, see the shape difference overall in yellow and then specifically at the tip/end/face, in red.

I think the flatter red section of the newer fin would allow for better camera mounting and seal

That’s the point of the newer fin, it already has the rearview camera integrated into it at that point. It’s one part so you’d have to try your luck with buying that entire antenna and taking it apart

I installed the camera into my OEM fin. I did not like the shape of the one from Gen5diy, although nice, but I wanted red, not CF. Easy to do, but you do need to modify the antenna. IMHO, it looks factory.

Part of the reason I was asking about the shape of the newer one with the camera and what the antennas in there are for.

Again, if they are just for the OnStar and SiriusXM, then I don't care because I do not use those.

If it is an OEM Camaro fin, then it will be hard to tell any different from early to later version. If it is flat faced, then it will work better than the non camera fin.

The product in this photo would NOT pass my quality control!!!

Sorry was dark and a little moist out. The back up camera, is located just above the license plate, next to the trunk open button about 2-3 inches to the left of it.

Yes, everything still works as it should. Although, I did need to modify the antennas a bit.
