It's not normal per se in the traditional sense of saying that it shouldn't happen to any vehicle, but it is GM normal for our oil pumps. They were built using cheap cast components, including the gearing and veins inside of the assembly. If your car survived that then that is amazing!

I killed it right away and coasted it into a parking lot. I have been watching the oil pressure since I read about them on this site

Yikes... happy you caught it early! Thats why I also recommend the Banks iDash so you can set a low oil pressure alert and get instant feedback to help save your motor.

I suggest sending those pics to Katech.

Please make sure you clean and flush any area that could have trapped shrapnel...

Like many have said.... it's not a matter of if, but when.

What pump did you replace it with?

I got one of the Katech oil pumps and in case It wasnt clear this was the GM oil pump in the pics not the Katech. I have monitored the oil pressure since I got the car and noticed a spike instead of a drop which was weird I thought. the engine auto rev matched for a downshift and the oil pressure shot to 70-80 PSI at like 3k rpm. I let it idle down and it started dropping below 10 and I killed it. I did ask the shop to flush out the oil cooler etc. they have done quite a few of these on the 6.2 trucks. I didnt ask about ZL1's but they specialize in LS LT motors and came highly recommended. I ran the oil they put in home and then changed it again.

Seems odd to say, but, Congrats for catching this fast... sounds like you may have said yourself an engine... You gonna cam the car while your in there?

I decided to just get it back stock for now. Next year my plan is 2.3 upper Kong Xport the blower bigger TB and a Big gulp intake I should get that louder blower whine that I like and get maybe 70 -80 RWHP?

Great plan! You're on the right track !!! I did those mods (many more as well)! On my build threaded, post #617, is a YouTube video of Saturday night at the drag strip. From the stands, you can here my X-ported blower whining link a mo-fo !!!!
